How does thyroid cancer make you feel?
Thyroid cancer can be devastating to anyone who gets diagnosed with it. It is a condition characterized by abnormal cell growth in the thyroid gland, which leads to an impaired function of the entire body.
The symptoms of thyroid cancer can vary greatly among patients and depend on factors such as the type and stage of their cancer. However, if you have been recently diagnosed with thyroid cancer or suspect that you might have it, this article will tell you how it may make your body feel.
Fatigue
One common symptom experienced by people with thyroid cancer is fatigue or weakness (never-ending exhaustion). Although fatigue can result from various health problems–such as sleep deprivation or physical exertion– its persistence and intensity differ across individuals.
An individual’s ability to perform activities they usually enjoy like exercise, hobbies are curtailed because of continuous tiredness even after long hours of sleep (goodnight.sleep)
Unexplained weight gain/loss
Many people go through inexplicable weight changes leading up to a diagnosis. Someone diagnoses for hyperthyroidism is likely to experience unintended (but noticeable) weight loss due to rapid metabolism change whereas those diagnosed with hypothyroidism often experience undesirable weight gains leading lack any inclination towards diets making them indulge into eating anything they please.
These fluctuations in mass are accompanied by mood swings (emotional rollercoaster ride).
Swelling/thickening at base f neck
Swollen masses protruding around the base nape due present throughout day makes wearing collared clothes impossible – Annoying wardrobe malfunction!.
Itching manifests underneath /very dry patchy skin(area where swelling occurs) leaving unquenchable thirst out finally giving way scratching leading mild irritation eventually resulting scars- OOPS dermatologists!
(Having mentioned swelling , Thickening too should not be swept under carpets)
Thickened patches(Elephants foot) leaving conspicuous lumps / visible growth(nodule like) in the neck region.
The area can be painful/sensitive to touch or simply discomforting.
Voice change
The thyroid lies close to the vocal cords. As such, tumors that form around it and particularly those influencing areas of function leading spillovers touching surrounding nerves (Laryngeal nerve-Impaired voicebox/out-of-tune singing programs).
A person may notice their voice sounds hoarse or broken(a cross between cawing crow & distressful cat). Interestingly, some people noticed unequivocally changes during speech/whisper.
Anxiety
You are dealing with a malign that occurs generally in adults (majority women), The amount of one’s life investment by either self(health/stress),partner/family on this enterprise creates an atmosphere very much non-conducive for happy thoughts.
Uncertainty brought about endless waiting periods alongside extensive chemotherapy cycles forces high levels keep patients anxious virtually all through processes- Trust me panic attacks aren’t too far behind!
Feeling powerless due uncontrollable setbacks? – You are not alone! It is natural emotional response prompting mood swings affecting personal life and relationships as well.
Nobody wants sympathy, but genuine consideration goes a long way whilst going through turbulent times .Sometimes just being there/getting held/listening helps combat (Traversing rocky terrains) delicate moments
Confusion/Foggy brain/Cognitive dysfunction
Dealing with cancer takes up tremendous strength from inside/literally draining body resources (“Why am I doing this again ?!”). People often sense fogginess/difficulty concentrating even challenging decision-making skills they’d previously wielded without effort (Weapons turned against you).
Living with cancers gives rise problems including attention span,dementia-like disturbances ,memory dilemmas, some depression accompanied by confusion leaving lots frustration symptoms can lead to poor quality/impairment at work .
Could you blame anyone? people just can’t help but question everything that happens around them- Mental blocks!
Pain
Chronic pain is unfortunately a byproduct of living with cancer. For some sufferers, they might not even show any visible signs of tumor growth or changes to medical professionals until it’s too late, ultimately reaching advanced stages/survival dwindles.
Causes for chronic pains could be multifaceted particular Thyroid Tumors hemming in on blood vessels/nerves grouping within their proximity – making normal functioning impossible.
Localized radiation treatment/chemo cycles takes huge tolls inducing variegated body ache(pain points varying from person-person)that become hard to track individually.
Sleep Disorders
The thyroid gland regulates many intricate biological processes throughout the human body including regulation sleep patterns.
As such disruptions caused during diagnosis leads loss sleep patterns (Latenightthoughts)’ resulting insomnia/poor quality sleep (feeling tired waking up after long hour sleeping hours’),resulting daytime lethargy(couldn’t wake myself up this morning….. again ) predominantly demanding consistent meals and nap timings into schedule).
In conclusion if you find yourself experiencing more than one symptom in quick succession & display awareness about how your week went along relative to previously accustomed behaviour; There’s a chance that something might be off-kilter so get an appointment with professional as early detection results are key!
