How does paragard work?

We all know how babies are made, but what happens when you don’t want one just yet? That’s where Paragard comes in! Let’s take a look at how this little device works its magic.

What is Paragard?

Before we dive into the nitty-gritty of how it works, let’s first answer the question: what exactly is Paragard? Well, my friend, Paragard is an intrauterine device (IUD) that prevents pregnancy by releasing copper ions that make it difficult for sperm to swim and fertilize an egg. It can stay in place for up to 10 years! That’s right – 10 glorious years without any unexpected surprises.

The Magic of Copper

So now you’re probably thinking: “Okay cool, but how does copper prevent pregnancy?” Great question! When the ParaGard IUD is inserted into your uterus (which only takes a few minutes), it sits there like a boss silently killing off those pesky sperm with its coppery goodness.

The copper irritates your uterine lining creating a hostile environment for any potential fertilized eggs or sperm trying to latch on and wreak havoc (bye Felicia). Additionally, the presence of excess copper creates thick mucus that covers your cervix making entry impossible (no trespassing please).

Insertion Process

Now we know about the wonders of copper and its wizardry ways. But hold up -what about getting this contraption inside us in the first place? Firstly – ouch– then secondly read below:

  1. Consultation: Your doctor will discuss whether or not ParaGaurd might be right for you based on various factors such as medical history.
  2. Preparation: You are advised use Ibuprofen before procedure begins along side local anesthesia.
  3. Placement Appointment: Doctor will insert a T-shaped ParaGard device gently into the uterus by using an applicator which can be a bit uncomfortable.
  4. Test to ensure placement: A scan is conducted in order to assure proper positioning.

What Makes Paragard Unique?

One crucial thing that really sets ParaGaurd apart from other forms of birth control (aside from being highly effective), is that it’s completely hormone-free! That means no more dealing with the side effects (hello mood swings and weight gain) of hormonal contraception – hallelujah!

Because there are no hormones, Paragard works right away (no waiting game) and you don’t have to remember taking any pills every day.

Another plus? It doesn’t interfere with your sexual pleasure (thank goodness). Unlike condoms, which can tear or slip off, making for awkward situations up-close-and-personal.

Age Requirement

Now before you get too excited about never having babies ever again, let’s talk eligibility requirements first-whoop whoop!

ParaGaurd can be used by almost anyone – whether you’ve had kids or not (celebration time) ! However , there still are restrictions:

  • Women with abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Womenwith pelvic infections
  • Allergies towards Copper components
    (paraibaite mineral)
will need opposition consideration when seeking this contraceptive.

The good news is that if none of these apply to you, then congratulations buddy because its smooth sailing ahead !

How Effective Is It?

When I say extremely effective – I mean EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE. Less than 1% chance of becoming pregnant while using ParaGuard effectively demonstrates its effectiveness (unique as YOUR fingerprints).

However like all birth control options out there (including abstinence FYI),there always remains a faint chance for pregnancy even installing coppery little dude inside us haha(well nobody’s perfect).

Reversal of Effects

Here’s a fun fact: ParaGaurd works by keeping sperm away from eggs, but also mainly prevents implantation. So what happens after it is removed?

Well that completely depends on your body (body knows the best). There are zero reported instances whereby there was infertility post removal.

Side-Effects

Just like anything else in life, ParaGaurd can come with some minor downsides as per circumstances:

  • Increased bleeding especially longer/heavier periods
  • Cramping
  • Non-favorable smells /discharge during first two-three days (similar to new piercing)

However Paranormal activity and/or spontaneous combustion were not amongst them at last check (phewwwwh!).

As always, if you’re experiencing any side effects or just have general questions, make sure to consult with your healthcare provider.

Do Not Use As STD Prevention Measure

Finally fellas let’s remind ourselves that while our copper buddy here does wonders against unplanned pregnancies, it offers no protection against sexually transmitted diseases 😪. Always wrap up your branch in case u don’t wanna count grass hopper legs later on wink wink.
