How do u get fiberglass out of your skin?

Fiberglass is a wonderful invention. It makes your house warmer, your windows clearer and possibly even enables rockets to soar into space! However, apart from its incredible uses in the world of construction and engineering, fiberglass isn’t always so delightful because sometimes…it gets embedded in our skin.

Don’t worry though! I’m here with some tips on how you can get that pesky fiberglass out of your precious skin.

Understand What You’re Dealing With

Before we dive straight into the solution to this prickly problem, let’s understand what fiberglass actually is. Glass consists primarily of silica (SiO2), while fiberglass is typically made up of tiny glass fibers or particles mixed with plastic resin which holds them together.

Now imagine these tiny little pieces penetrating your skin like microscopic daggers – ouch!! No wonder it hurts!

The hairspray analogy: Much like when teenagers use too much hairspray to keep their hairdos in place (remember those days?), once that stuff gets onto your scalp or forehead after being rained on or smashed by an airbag during a car accident [It’s funny until someone gets hurt! ]; it feels scratchy and irritating- usually leading us folks who weren’t satisfied letting Mother Nature do her thing by washing away the sticky residue off our heads;we start clawing at those areas -just like animals would.

First Steps

Okay now for some practical advice.

First things first: don’t rub or scratch at any affected areas as soon as you notice that you have inadvertently gotten yourself stuck full ‘o glass splinters ! This will only make matters worse by forcing more fiberglass further into the skin where it will continue to embed itself even deeper. So put down the tweezers and stay calm!

Instead: rinse myself under cool running water for several minutes ,making sure that all the affected areas are soaking in the water stream [temperature control a big plus! no need to jump from too hot to cold ,or vice versa. ; so easy-to-temper peeps beware..skipping this step could cause you some stinging pain; let alone actually removing those fibers out of your skin 🤪 ]

In case we’re outside camping and this happens, it’s strongly suggested that we take shots of whiskey instead in order to numb any pain while removing each fragment individually with our bare hands or fingernails if needed! Please note: This is not an endorsement for alcohol consumption under any circumstances, guys!

DIY Methods

Here are several other safe at-home methods which can help remove fiberglass splinters or particles:

Method How-To Instructions
Tweezing Sterilize tweezers with rubbing alcohol before start picking.
Shaving Cream Apply shaving cream directly onto the affected area utilizing circular motions .
Tape Use clear tape (packing tape works better)to pull gently over the affected areas

Additionally: Investing on purchasing reusable face masks should be top priority especially when doing dusty activities like home repairs/demolitions/installations etc.; And don’t forget leaf blowers CAN BE YOUR MEGA FRIENDS IN BLOWING AWAY LOOSE PARTICLES ^

While performing these various treatments: We may feel a certain burning sensation because – well obviously there are foreign bodies lodged in our precious derma layer tryna escape (Like prisoners stuck behind bars clinging at freedom) and sometimes getting evicted can hurt quite badly.

So just bear with it ok? But please take extra caution as using improper removal techniques can lead to serious complications such as infections, rashes, bruises or even more serious medical conditions.

Seek Professional Medical Assistance

If you are still suffering from fiberglass after these at-home remedies, it’s time to take a trip to the doctor! A medical professional will be able to remove any remaining splinters or particles safely beneath the surface without causing further damage. Although if someone decides that they’re going do-it-myself- style anyways then hey, more power (and pain) to them!!

Don’t suffer in silence; Reach out for help when required because dealing with this on your own could result in more headaches not just financially but physically as well – especially afterwards being mortified about having what looks like a bad case of chickenpox despite…not being 8 years old anymore!

In Conclusion

Remember: The best prevention is preparation by wearing non-porous work gloves, long-sleeved shirts and pants which cover up those exposed areas living no room for potential wounds/scrapes to occur where fiberglass can enter our system – making it easier never be an issue!

Stay safe and avoid getting yourself stuck full ‘o glass !!
