How can you treat hypothyroidism?

If you’re feeling sluggish, gaining weight, and having trouble sleeping, your thyroid could be to blame. With hypothyroidism affecting about 5% of the population (and more often women than men), it’s important to know what’s going on and how you can fight back.

No Shame in Medication Game

The first line of defense against hypothyroidism may well include a synthetic version of thyroxine — T4 — which is typically low in people with this condition. This medication tends to come as a pill that you’ll pop every day like its life-giving candy because honestly, it kinda is! Skipping days or accidentally running out before refills spell bad news for your body all over again.

Before we go any further – yes synthetics for some things are good; stop rolling your eyes now Felisha!

It takes about six weeks for the full effect of thyroid hormone replacement therapy drugs to kick start. But don’t despair if after popping these funny-looking pills daily there are no immediate effects right away – sustained progress [this scientific term makes me sound smart wink] takes time.

So keep being patient before stashing away those little white lifesavers along with all the other expired medications in that cabinet upstairs where we pretend those negative tests never happened – just get better instead!

Here comes arguably one of my favorite phrases…no pain no gain- except without the pain at all: eventually (!) you will feel like yourself again! Trust us on this one.

The Power Of Exercise In All Its Glory To Save Your Thyroid

Wait..wait…let’s pause for dramatic effect here ^(bam!)– so y’all thought exercise was only meant for getting rock hard abs or Jennifer Aniston-like toned muscles? Think again!

Exercise helps everything – from joint pain [which I might add, has been scientifically proven!] to depression! However, when it comes specifically to hypothyroidism; both strength training and moderate cardiovascular workout routines can be beneficial for the body as they help kickstart metabolism which allows your hormones (and pants!) breathe better.

But if you’re still not sold on exercising alone – let me pitch this to you : the added bonus of weight loss without crazy diets that’d make anyone cranky. When done in conjunction with daily medication intake – long walks or bike rides can do wonders while also letting yourself take a break.

Cut To The Chase With A Healthy Diet

We all have that one friend who preach a healthy diet– usually at Monday morning meetings !(sigh)- however listen up everyone: what we consume actually matters!

Our precious lil’ thyroids need some specific things like iodine [bet y’all never thought anyone would lay claim on something like Iodine huh?] consumed alongside its steady food habits so low-fat dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt may come in handy here.

Be careful though because, too much water-based foods likes tofu or brussel sprouts might interfere with our good ol’ T4 pills’ absorption process– therefore resulting in insufficient amounts being pumped out into your bloodstream- nobody wants that right?!

Enter into the picture proteins! Lean meats of chicken & turkey can easily increase much-needed protein consumption levels (for those who aren’t vegan but then again…where’s the fun is being normal?) which will work together with our good ole girly hormone estrogen [secret weapon alert yo!] by preventing lipid imbalances (that could lead directly!) causing an underactive thyroid gland YIKES!

Bottomline – don’t stress too much about never eating sugar again- find balance! Eating until you’re satisfied is always key- although there’s no denying getting rid of junk food entirely from your cupboard level-ups improvement since now you’re then forced to cook whole foods!

The Big Picture – Get Enough Rest

This might come as a shocker[ or not at all]^(dun dun!) but our bodies were meant to take breaks! Being stressed’ll lead one straight back into that ‘no sleep’ routine we’ve been trying so hard to break free from.

Hypothyroidism symptoms can easily coincide with those of insomnia, anxiety and depression [so no pressure though 😉 ]– What can you do to combat this? Take steps mental peace & physical wellness by slowing down as it helps hormones regulate better whilst also assisting faster recovery[because let’s face it guys…a well-rested sleepy head is just adorable!].

Get rid of technology while in bed. No matter how pretty colors look on your laptop screen; imitating lights late at night starts an endless cycle that leaves us foggy-headed the next morning.

Recap On How To Be A Hero With Hypothyroidism

  1. Stay consistent in taking medication daily;
  2. Moderate exercise routines keep metabolism chugging along nicely;
  3. Diet should include lots of iodine and lean meats (which both aid in hormone balance);
  4. Avoiding stress through making time for activities you enjoy (this ties everything together perfectly).

So stop stressing over what’s going wrong right now- work it out instead with simple tips outlined above without needing medical potions nor insane workout regimes [and…most importantly create lasting habits]. Remember the phrase? Everything takes time (9 months will pass regardless) follow these scientifically proven perks shared😊!
