Does vitamin c reduce cholesterol?

If you’re reading this, you’re probably wondering: does vitamin c reduce cholesterol? Well, my friend, the answer is not as clear cut as one would hope.

What is Cholesterol?

Before diving into the main question at hand, let’s establish a basic understanding of what cholesterol actually is. Cholesterol itself isn’t evil; in fact, it’s necessary for our body to function properly. It’s a waxy substance found in every cell of our bodies and helps create hormones that are essential for things like digestion and reproduction.

However, when we consume too much saturated/ trans fats or sugar-filled foods (aka basically all junk food), the liver starts producing more cholesterol than your body needs which can be bad news for your arteries. This excess builds up on artery walls creating plaque and limiting blood flow🚫💉

The Role of Vitamin C

Now back to the question at hand – where exactly does vitamin c fit into this equation? For starters – vitamin C 🔑 isn’t produced naturally by our bodies, so we need to get it through external sources like 🍊or supplements.

Vitamin C has several benefits including playing an important role in ..wait..for…it..the formation of collagen☠️ Que “Science Fiction” music. But that’s not why you’re here reading this article now are you fam?

When trying to understand its impact on cholesterol levels there seems to be mixed research results. Some studies have shown that taking Vitamin C supplements might help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels while boosting HDL (good) ✅✨however others show no association between them😕 how inconvenient right?!

On another note- even if Vitamins do help with reducing LDLs,

[]Does anyone really want to take vitamins everyday just because they had too many burgers over Memorial Day weekend 🤔

The Role of Diet and Exercise

There’s a chance that if you’re looking at Vitamin C as the ultimate solution to high cholesterol, it might not be that effective on its own. To truly have results in reducing LDL levels we need take a look at changing/wanting-to-be-a-better-person- lifestyle.

That means incorporating heart healthy foods like Nuts 🌰 , Quinoa (?!) and switching up our fitness routines with some cardiovascular exercise (AKA anything that gets your heart pumping @ 100 mph). So I guess this is also an invitation for us to get up from the couch… #fitnesschallenge💪

How Much Vitamin C Do You Need?

If vitamin C supplements still seem appealing or necessary, knowing how much you actually need can definitely help avoid overdosing aka horrible stomach cramps whilst being on a date 😒

The recommended daily dose for adults is about 90mg which can easily come from simply eating one small orange a day OR even better having some super crunchy/satisfying …[drumroll please] bell peppers [pepper emoticon]. Green ones contain more vitamin c per serving compared to their red/orange counterparts👀

However it should be noted that doses upwards of 2,000mg/day can lead to some unfortunate side effects such diarrhea 💩and headaches😵.

The Bottom Line

So back around full circle – does vitamin C reduce cholesterol ?? Well technically there isn’t foolproof evidence showing correlation but hey let’s face it incorporating any sort of fruits/veggie supplement couldn’t hurt either right? And who knows maybe Vitamins will aid in making sure we don’t end up with really bricky arteries later on down the line 😅

Until then remember:

•almonds >snickers bars
•bell peppers are legit THE MOVE
•good ol’ fashioned cardio never hurt nobody
