Sinuses are the unsung heroes of our respiratory system. They dutifully filter out dirt, dust, and other airborne debris so that our lungs can breathe easy. But sometimes they get stressed-out (don’t we all?) and become inflamed or blocked with mucus. This results in sinus pressure which, as anyone who’s had it knows, is no joke.
Enter Nasacort – a nasal spray designed to combat hay fever, allergies and nasal symptoms caused by year-round allergens like pet dander and pollen. But what about its efficacy in treating sinus pressure? Does it work or is it just another overhyped product gathering dust on the shelf at your local drugstore? Let’s explore this mo-fo!
What Is Nasacort?
Before we dive into how well Nasacort works for sinus pressure relief (if at all), let’s go over some basics of what exactly Nasacort is.
Nasacort contains triamcinolone acetonide as its active ingredient – which belongs to a class of drugs known as glucocorticoids (the same type used to treat asthma). It works by inhibiting the production of certain chemicals in the body that cause inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
In short: It reduces inflammation associated with allergic reactions like stuffy noses brought upon allergic rhinitis.
Nasacrt comes in two forms:
1) Over-the-counter version — Used for external decongestant purposes
2) Prescription strength Version — Given when heavy medication needed
Moreover there are certain risks associated withe taking nasalcrom including nosebleeds, poor immune function, irritation etc.
Can You Treat Sinus Pressure With Nasal Sprays Like Namely One-Nightstand… I Mean Nasacort?
To cut the chase, yes it does! In theory at least. A study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology shows that using a steroid nasal spray like Nasacort resulted in significant improvement for those with persistent allergic rhinitis (this does not necessarily mean sinus pressure only though) due to exposure to dust mites or mold.
Another study shows anti-inflammatory effects on sinuses from use of nasalcrom but how much it alleviates actual pain is contentious.
Thus concluding so far we can say that some scientific findings do suggest employing Nasacrot as a method to combat allergies-alleviated sinus pain but they are not definitive when it comes specifically addressing sinus pressure.
Are There any Side Effects Using This Drug As An OTC Medication?
Well what harm could this little ol’ over-the-counter nasal spray have right? Don’t let its small size fool you – there are pros and cons of everything in life my friends.
The side-effects associated with corticosteroid medication include nosebleeds, sore throat, coughing up blood (in severe cases), white patches on surface of tongue etc.
These side effects aren’t limited to just Nasacort; other products containing this type of ingredient shares these caveats.. Therefore if these symptoms occur frequently then contact health physicians immediately.
Fun Fact: People who generally suffer from cataracts should avoid usage of glucocorticoids because it apparently increases their growth!
Moreover long term use can cause increased bacteria development around your eyes consequently leading up-to blindness altogether!
However fear not by complying with instructions mentioned within Pamphlets people may evade most health adversities thus providing better outcomes following blow-drying themselves into absurdity
Does Your Insurance Plan Cover This Wonderful Peek-a-Boo Inflamation Ally ?
Many insurance policies cover both OTC versions and Prescription strength medications dependent upon coverage tiers or one’s personal Healthcare Providing plan. Consult with your health insurance company for more details on this!
Are There Any Alternatives To Nasal Sprays That Also Alleviate Sinus Issues?
Why of course, because what would life be without options? Some include:
1) Andrographis Paniculata – A herb used by Ayurveda Practitioners to alleviate sinusitis and other respiratory problems but also a chicken chowder apparently
2) Peppermint Oil Drops/Steam — organic natural solution providing symptom relief especially when it comes to drying out sinuses! However this method is not recommended for people who have liver disease or seizure issues.
3 ) Saline Solution Spray—Definitely the easiest option in terms of obtaining it just head over to Walmart, CVS etc. By spraying solution up into their nostrils, trace mineral content enhances cilial membrane function promoting mucous drainage thus avoiding inflammation troubles altogether….
But Then Again Who Wouldn’t Want To Take Medicine Directly From Bottle Whereas Inhalation Of Irrigations Is For The Birds Am I Right?
So there you have it folks; some scientific findings allow us to infer that Nasacrot can help ease allergy related sinus pressure however its actual utility as a solution dedicated solely towards treating such external symptoms remains moderately unclear.
Despite potential side effects most corticosteroids share which includes nosebleeds , sore throat , aggravation around eyesight and injury toward overall immune system health attending physicians suggestions should eradicate any worries if considering use ! Additionally alternate methods like saline sprays , herbal medicines (chicken chowder notwithstanding) exist happily within reach promising similar symptom relief…
Finally remember never become an adjunct professor following watching nasal irrigation videos posted on youtube…. gory consequences may ensue… cheers!
