Does amoxicillin help with inflammation?

If you’re reading this, chances are that you’re wondering whether amoxicillin can be used to treat inflammation or not. Or maybe you just clicked on it because the title sounded interesting. Either way, I’m here to tell you all about it in a funny tone of voice.

What is amoxicillin?

First things first, let’s talk about what amoxicillin actually is. It’s an antibiotic drug that belongs to the penicillin family and is commonly used to treat bacterial infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis and urinary tract infections among others.

Amoxicillin works by interfering with the cell walls of bacteria which makes them unable to replicate and eventually leads to their death. This explains why it’s so effective against bacterial infections but does nothing for viral ones.
