Does adderall help with adhd?

Let’s face it, having ADHD can be a real challenge. Trying to focus on anything for more than two minutes seems impossible and the amount of energy required to complete even simple tasks is comparable to running a marathon. It’s no wonder that people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) turn to medication like Adderall for help.

But does Adderall actually work? And if so, what are the side effects and long-term consequences?

What is Adderall?

Before diving into whether or not Adderall helps treat ADHD, let’s first take a closer look at what exactly this drug is all about.

Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant commonly prescribed as a treatment option for patients diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The drug combines amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, two powerful agents known for their ability to boost cognitive function in their users.

In addition to helping those with ADHD calm down and focus better on tasks – it has also been used off-label as an aid in weight loss or fat burning (which by the way we totally do NOT recommend).

Because of its potency and widespread use across America – addy has become somewhat of an icon within pop culture circles only serving to further propagate its underlying message..that being “with enough ‘stimulation’, you too can succeed- regardless of any pre-existing conditions.”

How Does it Work?

The main mechanism behind how addy works involves increasing levels of norepinephrine and dopamine within one’s synapses. In layman terms… these are neurotransmitters responsible for modulating appetite regulation, impulse control, alertness etc( although don’t get us started on breaking down biological pathways here).

By blocking presynaptic reuptake transporters from absorbing them after they have been released into extracellular spaces – d-amines enable users to feel more energized, motivated and focused during periods where they normally would not.

The two forms of amphetamine each have slightly different pharmacokinetics- but by inhibiting the release of excitatory neurotransmitters within neuronal terminals, both can result in a general reduction of impulse-related behaviours.

Short Term Effects

One thing is certain – addy does work when it comes to its intended use for ADHD treatment. Individuals who consume Adderall experience an immediate surge or “rush” of dopamine and norepinephrine which allows them to focus on tasks with increased intensity, clarity and motivation that was seemingly missing before (although skeptics argue some may simply be experiencing a placebo effect).

Some other short term effects include:

  • Increased heart rate
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Dry mouth
  • Loss of appetite
  • Insomnia/Restlessness

While these are certainly uncomfortable side-effects for some (which we don’t condone), many see them as very small prices to pay in order get laser-focused productivity! Additionally – it’s important to note that most people experience minimal long-term negative consequences from starting such stimulants under adequate medical supervision.

So…Does It Help?

Evidently yes, sure there are diverse opinions surrounding ADHD medication especially given the varying degrees & symptoms people may face individually…but suffice it is safe to state – this drug has proven highly-effective at helping manage long-standing behavioural patterns among individuals struggling with diagnosed Attention Deficit hyperactivity disorders.

Functionally speaking, medication like Adderal does actually help those suffering from concentration issues exhibit higher levels of attention span, memory retention (short term) as well as enhanced executive functioning overall beyond what other self-help practices achieve alone. Countless anecdotes support such claims highlighting how post starting medications users have experienced significant improvements throughout their academic day-to-day lives seeing major differences marked between previous struggles prior (again follow advice from recognized medical practitioners before undertaking any new medication practices)

The Catch

Of course, as with everything else that benefits humans there is a catch…and sometimes it’s big enough to cause potential red flags down the road.

But in this context (while we do not recommend using addy off-label) focus must naturally be directed towards screening for precautions or warning signs surrounding prolonged prescription useage. Just as eyeglasses can assist vision but overuse may abet ocular damage- ADHD Medication too needs scrutiny and optimal balancing of dosages in order to prevent dependency on the same- which could lead to addiction risks later on!

There have more mild cases reported such as stomach pains~ leading all up from nausea, loss of appetite, insomnia & even headaches should gorging habits spiral out-of-control.. so think responsibly fellow healthcare chimps!

Final Thoughts

While Adderall – and similar medications used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder – are generally regarded as effective short-term tools for managing attentional concerns brought about by cognitive impairments; It’s always imperative sticking within one’s maximum dosage limit whilst remodelling diet simultaneously so aimless concentration issues eventually become a thing of the past thanks to healthy self-care regulating(. Remember: Cognitively diverse experiences don’t necessarily make you weak – they help train your mindpupils how best it’ll function giving us liberties actuated through coherent personal care practices 🙂
