Can you take apple cider vinegar with ppi?

Ah, the age-old question that has plagued mankind since the invention of PPIs and apple cider vinegar – can these two forces coexist? Well, worry not my dear reader because today we shall delve deep into the world of acid reflux and antacids.

Understanding Acid Reflux

Before answering this crucial query, let’s first brush upon what causes acid reflux in our bodies. At its core, acid reflux occurs when gastric acids from your stomach flow upwards to your esophagus causing irritation and inflammation (not a good feeling). There could be several reasons behind it such as overeating or consuming acidic food items (like those delicious oranges).

Nowadays, people are opting for Antacid medications called Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) to help alleviate the issue. For starters, they reduce the amount of gastric acid produced in your stomach hence minimizes chances of any further damage (thank heavens for science!).

But then enter-side effects- most notorious being B12 deficiency and anemia among others (great! This is why I always keep iron pills on me)

What exactly is Apple Cider Vinegar?

I think it’s safe to say that almost all kitchens worldwide have a bottle of ACV tucked somewhere between ketchup bottles and soy sauce jars. But if by chance you aren’t aware then here’s a fun fact: ACV is made up sulfurous juice from crushed apples which gets fermented producing acetic acid

Although many health fanatics claim numerous benefits like aiding weight loss & digestion but how much scientific evidence stands tall still remains debatable.

How does Apple Cider Vinegar work against Acid Reflux Symptoms?

Many hundred years ago one must had thought about something like ‘if only there was some counteractive measure if we end up eating too spicy dinner” well Apple cider vinegar might just be the answer here. (Thank you, Goodness gracious)

It’s believed that ACV is naturally acidic therefore when consumed it helps restore PH balance in our gut and hence aids digestion (all hail mother nature!).

Can It Be Harmful To Your Health?

We wish we could say otherwise but Yes! Consuming apple cider vinegar together with PPI medications can harm your stomach.

You see, by consuming ACV along with proton pump inhibitors (PPI) you expose yourself to a higher risk of developing Hypochlorhydria – which translates into low stomach acid levels for us regular folks. And this is exactly what we don’t want happening as the purpose of PPIs was to reduce how much gastric acid we’re producing in our bodies anyway!

Is There Any Alternative To ACV Then??

YAS! HCL supplements are one such remedy that works equally well if not better than apple cider vinegar would have done without harming the existing medication routine.

This supplement tricks body into believing it has normal HCl production resumed thus risking minimal hypochlorydria reactions while still mending GERD symptoms!

That said- Consulting gastroenterologist or medical personnel before making any changes isn’t only advisable but also recommended at all times!

So remember! ‘an apple a day keeps doctor away’ indeed does relate to healthcare! But make sure our beloved apples aren’t forcing us to visit them instead!
