Can you get keloids on your face?

If you still live under a rock and haven’t heard of keloids, then it’s time to step out and face the music. Or in some cases, face the scars. Keloids are elevated thick scars that occur due to excessive tissue growth at the site of injury or incision. It might look like harmless skin deposits from afar but let’s be honest – they’re not exactly as attractive as Justin Timberlake.

Many people have asked if keloids can form on their faces, and we’re here to answer those burning questions today!

What Causes Keloid Scars?

Before we dive right into whether keloid scars can form on your face or not, it’s important to understand what causes these bad boys in general.

Keloid scar formation occurs when there is an overproduction of collagen – which is the protein responsible for skin elasticity – during wound healing. These abnormal formations usually start around a piercing hole, surgical incision, a cut or scratch, chickenpox sores, acne, burns… you name it! Even rubbing too hard at that pimple could trigger its arrival (now that is just plain mean).

The good news? Keloid scarring doesn’t pose any serious health risk beyond physical appearance but damn do they affect someone emotionally!

Some people may argue that being #flawless isn’t everything- I beg to differ Kevin Hart will tell anyone who listens how he lost 2 inches off his height because he has terrible posture since he was bullied growing up about his acne insert chuckle

My point here really though is cosmetic insecurity hurts!

And now comes for our all-important question:

Can you develop keloids on your face?

The short answer: Yes siree bob! The long ‘medical’ answer: absolutely freaking yes!

It turns out anywhere where broken skin cells could develop into normal wounds increases chances of Keloids forming. Facial Keloids are more common in darker-skinned populations than lighter skinned people! so there’s a silver lining for some.

But even the celebs like Halle Berry aren’t immune, she has reportedly had keloid scarring on one of her ears after piercing herself as a teenager. (Is it just me, or do we love the thought of celebrities having issues too).

The Most Common Causes of Keloids on Face

As previously mentioned, any breakage on the skin could potentially result in keloid scars, but here are specific scenarios that cause facial keloids:

Ear Piercings

A true story was told about how a woman accidentally re-pierced her ears four times over to avoid an ugly-ass earlobe void due to unhealed tissues adding up because of previous attempts before realizing that she might actually have developed Keloid external scaring!

Doctors typically say not to pierce your ears further when you’ve got yourself a small bump from excess tissue growth around your current ones..

(Maybe go with earrings-just saying).

Hairline Trauma

Anything goes from scratching overly itchy dandruff – believe me I know firsthand what cold weather does to someone’s flora-or weakening hair follicles and ends conditions/ trauma can spike chance for formation.

Even those tight ass hairstyles okayed by stylists (that ironically causes stress alopecia) have potential risks too!

I mean why must struggling give us struggle… It isn’t fair.

### Acne Scars
People with acne-prone skin tend to be at higher risk for contracting keloi scar formation particularly if they try popping zits! See How This Is About Karma 😉 <3

Yes our favorite part-time job becomes forever memorialized all over our beauty canvas! Those poor individuals trapped between wearing make-up or exposing their pain.(OK moving swiftly along)

Blame it on genetics if you must- certain genes predispose more keloid history.

Burns

When any type of heat source causes damage to our skin, often discoloration remains as well that becomes ‘trapped’ beneath the scars.

Here are some other factors that may contribute to facial keloid scarring:

  • Age (between 10 and 30 years old which equals yet another notch on this ageism thing #ageisdumb)

-Hormonal imbalances

-Skin tone (darker skin tones tend toward increased risk)

-Pregnancy

-Stress (not like we don’t have a lot of that around here these days)

-Diabetes mellitus

-The scar’s size and location

So yes! This ish can happen anywhere (cue In My Feelings song): face included!

How to Treat Keloids on Your Face?

Keloids are pesky little things but they’re not impossible to beat. Here are some effective treatments for combatting your facial keloids :

Corticosteroid Injection

The go-to option as far as akishato (”>ala’] gets concerned)

Corticosteroid injections aim at minimizing inflammation in wounds by diminishing swelling causing agents found mostly around new vessels sites. It’s also been hailed for boosting collagen turnover diminishing future recurrence rates!

However, corticosteroids aren’t a one-hit deal- multiple appointments may be required depending patient profile and extent of manifestations.

(And FYI -that shizzle hurts! 💉)

If no treatment options appeal there’s always playing dodgeball with life–so ditch skincare routines or applied pressure..sarcasm ladies and gents just implying living perfect without having faults isn’t much fun either!

Other types of injection therapies used include:

•Imiquimod
•5-fluorouracil

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is the use of extreme frosty temperatures in treating keloid scarring. It works by freezing keloids on your skin to a dipper temperature than what they already are resulting in cell damage and apoptosis(typical programed cell death).

The damaged tissue then undergoes a breakdown process known as “necrosis,” concluding with sloughing off!

Though it’s seen better results for small growths, cryotherapy alone doesn’t get rid of larger scars completely but helps minimize appearances greatly.

Radiation Therapy

For some radiation therapy can sound too good (or crazy) to be true. “Radiation isn’t something anyone wants” quotes Jeffrey Rand from UCLA’s trauma center during an interview with WebMD, it kills everything not just cancer cells!” But—this exposure form allows them to do just that speeding reduction over course sessions prescribing less scar marks taking formation days to weeks complete cycle.

But there you have-just like every aspect in life treat your face right-be kind…and clean 😉 -you never know how lucky or unlucky genetics/ fate may turn out.Crazy Absurd Conclusion…

At least when we’re old-hopefully/kinda-we will have hard evidence of all the struggles we’ve gone through-How often does one’s bumpy cheek become forever remembered-only this time is mostly everlasting.

So embrace yourself no matter-your flaws-since well, were imperfectly perfect-human after all learning day-by-day scratching ours heads -hopefully only due new ideas and theories instead…
