Can i take turmeric?

If you’re reading this, chances are that you’ve heard of the glory that is turmeric. This spice has been around for hundreds of years and boasts a wide range of benefits. But can you take it without setting your insides on fire? Fear not, dear reader – we’ve got all the juicy details right here.

A Brief History Lesson

Before we dive into the nitty gritty details about turmeric, let’s talk about its history. This golden-hued spice has been around since 3000 BC in India and was used as both a culinary ingredient and medicinal herb (wowza!). It wasn’t until much later that turmeric began to gain popularity in other parts of the world.

Why is India SO obsessed with Turmeric?

Well lucky for us curious folks out there – Indians are just downright awesome when it comes to some good ol’ health hacks! They discovered long ago that Turmeric was great for stopping inflammation! It’s not super surprising then why Turmeric is still such an important ingredient today (and pretty popular everywhere else now too!).

So What Exactly IS Turme-what?!

Believe me pal you wouldn’t want to know what goes into making this guy if we told ya but hey – your mind doesn’t know yet so why cross-checking!

Let’s drop some knowledge bombs: ‘turmerones’, ‘zingiberene’ & ‘curcuminoids’ partaking within our little yellow ally also known as curcuma longa- wait… holdup do those terms sound like they came from space btw? Nooope – this Superman-like situation belongs right down here on Earth!

Basically these compounds have bad-ass effects which make them useful in cooking food or taking as a supplement.

How is it Good for Your Body?

Don’t let them languid, sophisticated terms we just threw out there map you into thinking Turmeric can only be used to jazz up your Butter Chicken!

Let’s break down those bad-ass effects so you know exactly what benefits Turmeric has:
– Reduces inflammation in the body (hey, no one wants a perpetually puffy Barrymore face).
– Aids digestion via increase of bile production – no more over-stressed plumbing!
– Boosts brain power (insert Einstein-Worthy results by consuming)
– Helps prevent diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s. This thing does quite a bit.

While these are some of the key benefits that come with taking turmeric, research has shown that it also helps in different ways such as improving heart health & lowering cholesterol levels! Now who would have thought spices could cater this kind of lyf?

OK… but WAIT – Can I ACTUALLY Take Turmeric?

Sure By all means my friend! Wait hold up though can’t take too much– otherwise you’ll upset your MoJo FasterThanMr.BeanRoadrunningaway-style!!

According to scientific sources people shouldn’t exceed more than 3 grams per day – anything above the 3 mark may lead to seriousness situations(“potential scorching gut fires”). It’s best however if one stays between 1 and 2 grams daily

Taking turme-tastic amounts pills will not help either – Like most things these days: supplemenrs aren’t always good!
It’s important to find Tumeric in its natural form spice format with little-to-no chemicals added or make sure PURE dose supplements from genuine companies.

So bottom line folks; There ain’t no two-way splitting roads here-you-can eat tumeric on its own or chug powder form, sprinkle it onto foodstuffs & Drinks w/e ! but everything in moderation you don’t want to end up on this journey of: indigestion/tummy-upsets which leads towards a fun-sponge AF time.

What are the Best Ways to Take Turmeric?

Cook With It!

Using turmeric in your food is arguably the easiest way to incorporate it into your diet. When used as a spice it can merge well with most dishes such as stews, curries or even cottage cheese chili – trust us when we say that “if butter and bread are bff’s,Curcumin (That’s right it has its own subcategory!) and spices pretty much rank equally”

Drink Up That Golden Milk

If Gordon Ramsay starts hollering at you saying “You’ve got too many ingredients in there!” It means- “Perfecto!” because then that’ll help create magic superfoods’ drink called ‘Golden Milk”.

DIY quick recipe? Sure thing! All ya gotta do my matey-poo is:

  1. Heat up about 500ml of any type of milk
  2. Add a couple teaspoons (or perkier measures for an extra kick)of turmeric powder
3.And around ½ teaspoon each of cinnamon powder, ground ginger & coconut oil
4.Simmer and stir for five minutes till  beautifully golden-tastic looking consistency!

This tasty ghee-like beverage does wonders before bedtimes due to its calming effects plus won’t leave behind undesirable side-effect like too much caffeine intake.

Make Some Turmer-Tastic Tea!

Tea-loving fanatic? No problem-bring out yo’ inner-Heston Blumenthal inspired gangsta-chef by chucking some freshly grinded tumeric while steeping herbal tea-sticks/furry leaves within boiled water!(ok maybe not THAT violent)

As shared earlier Tumeric helps calm down general inflammation within our bodies – meaning forcing windpipes open over periods of time! Try and sip on some tumeric tea during sniffly winter months when colds become a bother!

Pop a Turmeric Supplement

Are you in not-so-“normal mishaps” mood today? (Thank us later)

Turmeric supplement tablets are available for those who can’t bear the thought of incorporating turmeric into their food i.e. kinda like throwing all around spices at once(sad face).

This method is best if one wants to maintain an exact dose, but the potential downside here is that it doesn’t help feed tastebuds.

Use as Skin Care

Ever heard about people using honey with Tumeric to create masks to brighten up skin tones or fend off acne breakouts? Of course, I know you will put this same question out there “Does it Work?” – Hell YeaH! All because ol’ curcumins saving grace hits both externally & Internally due its great anti-inflammatory properties. So ya might just be digging into fairly new skincare cultures too alongamodifying  pumpkin spice lattes…

When NOT to Take Turmeric

While turmeric offers plenty of benefits, it may not be suitable for everyone under every scenario :

  • During Surgery: It’s advised that patients stop taking any supplements/herbs before surgery, including turmeric spicing.
  • While Pregnant or breastfeeding : There’s no research confirming either bad/good effect on pregnancy hence undoubtedly preferred best left alone.
  • Iron Deficiency: Even though Tumeric has iron within itself ,iIf someone has low levels they should take care while consuming over-dose amounts since large doses restrict iron absorption ability
Diabetes Medication : If by chance your already on medication for diabetes please double check/consult a doctor as combining some medications with turmerics would lead towards hypoglycemia(low blood sugar).

These aren’t exclusive examples obviously so anyone experiencing different side-effects; always best to bump fists with a health expert first.

Turmeric Conclusion

That was one spicy (goes great with some ginger) and hopefully informative guide about everyone’s favourite golden spice. Turmeric is without-a-doubt an important part of everyone’s pantry thanks to its immune-boosting, brain-powerupping & acne-fighting powers!

Just remember that moderation is key when it comes to consuming spice. The last thing anyone wants is for you to be lying on the ground crying out “Mama Mia Here I Go AGAIN…”.

So, perk up your daily food routine by incorporating Tumeric into all things dishes/snacks,getting into habit of sipping or taking supplements – in either case you’ll end up feeling like superhuman than some mere mortal.
