But can it cause swollen lymph nodes as well? Follow me down the rabbit hole (our journey together), and we shall discover if our dear friend, “gingivitis” has any role to play.

What Is Gingivitis?

Gingiva, more commonly known as gums, are soft tissues that protect and provide blood supply to our teeth’s roots. The bacteria in dental plaque release toxins that irritate or inflame gums leading them towards receding thereby exposing tooth roots (sounds nasty doesn’t it?). This inflammation of gum tissue is better known as gingivitis. It may not manifest physically beyond redness and swelling but could lead to bigger problems; hence its prevention cannot be underscored.

Symptoms Of Gingivitis

The signs of gingivitis are pretty easy-peasy-breezy-
Bleeding while brushing (we all overdid it at first)
Red or purple-coloured gums
Pus between teeth and gums (scary stuff)
Persistent bad breath
Inflammation
Our appearances might scare off others even if dogs still love us for who we are.

So Why Do They Hurt Like Hell?

Now despite what most people think about gingivities pain being superficial because no bone structure lies underneath; let us assure everyone out there reading: these attitudes hurt like hell. Your body right now trying to fight hard against tiny disease-causing microorganisms which tend initiating/mangling/remodelling healthy living tissue into something unexplainable.

Lymph Nodes

In layman’s terms, lymph glands (nodes) are small bean-shaped structures found throughout the body; they filter harmful germs before allowing blood to flow back in from the bloodstream. The swollen gland(s) we discuss is no more than throat pain individuals have experienced as a result of catching cold/flu. So why do some experience it with gingivitis?

Can Gingivitis Cause Swollen Lymph Glands?

Yes- swollen nodes can form alongside mouth problems such as gum disease since primary microorganisms/sources thrive/end up near our neck area and travel through a chain of connected tissues/organs known inter-connectedly as lymphatic system, causing swelling/inflammation.

That said, please note that this phenomenon is not always triggered by gingivitis dentist doctors need to weigh in.

Then Why Can I Feel The Swarm Of Painful Numbness At Different Areas?

It might be useful at this juncture to declare that other conditions could cause similar symptoms including:
infections like tonsillitis, flu or sore throats
tooth abscesses,
sometimes even eczema may result indented gums and jaw pain!
But feeling somewhat relieved for just saying ‘gingivities’ when experiencing any discomfort whatsoever wouldn’t be justified either.
