Can diarrhea cause herpes outbreak?

If you’re someone who has experienced the utter delight of herpes, or just enjoys googling strange medical questions like I do, then you may have stumbled upon this puzzling question – can diarrhea cause a herpes outbreak? It seems like an unlikely duo, but let’s dive into it together and see what we can uncover.

What is Herpes?

Before we dive into the nitty-gritty details of whether or not diarrhea can lead to a herpes outbreak, let’s first define what exactly herpes is. Herpes is a viral infection that causes painful blisters on your mouth, genitals or anus. The most common form of genital herpes comes from HSV-2 while cold sores and fever blisters are caused by HSV-1. But no matter which version of the virus you’re experiencing (and listen up folks) there’s no cure for either type.

What Causes A Herpes Outbreak?

Ah yes – one must always establish how something happens before asking if it could happen in correlation with something else! So what actually causes a herpes outbreak? Well, different triggers impact different people in various ways including:

  • Emotional stress
  • Menstruation
  • Sexual intercourse
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures
  • Weakened immune system

But interestingly enough…Diarrhea is not listed here! However! Keep reading and try not to poo-poo my hypothesis right away.

How Does Diarrhea Work?

First things first folks (or should I say last?) let’s talk about why some people get really nasty poops once they experience an H-bomb drop in their life aka living with herps.

One thing that tends to weaken your immune system along with all sorts of other bodily functions (ahem again) is often accompanied by frequent explosive bowel movements (the body equivalent to run-flat tires) also known as diarrhea. Obviously, you can develop diarrhea from a number of factors including:

  • Food poisoning
  • Certain medications
  • Drinking too much alcohol

And yes, believe it or not, LOTS MORE FACTORS BECAUSE THAT’S JUST HOW THE EXPLOSIVE BOWEL ROLLS.

Understanding Triggers for a Herpes Outbreak

Diarrhea may cause exhaustion in some people after their bomb has dropped which could be the basic trigger they experience herpes outbreak. In addition to those mentioned above, here are some more potential triggers that may cause an outbreak linked to your daily activity.

  1. Infected areas can get exacerbated with prolonged exposure to moisture.
  2. Exposure to sunlight (This is why oftentimes breakouts tend to form on your face if you’re prone!).
  3. Friction during sex/masturbation/etc (putting in ‘toys’ isn’t recommended but I’m sure somewhere there’s research being done about THESE kind of jerks).
  4. Over staying in warm baths and again – sweating it out!
  5. Hormonal changes related like getting one’s periods etc.

The Gut-Brain Connection

Ever hear someone say “my stomach was in knots” when referring to feelings of anxiety or stress? Well yep folks not only do our minds play dirty tricks on us per usual #millennials who ruins everything but turns around also helps discover what ruin actually is!

There’s something called the gut-brain connection that directly links our intestines and digestive system with our brain works from controlling emotions such as anxiety and depression.“ About 90% of the body’s serotonin lives inside the gastrointestinal tract,” says Jamie Orsini LCSW-r .” So it makes sense how overindulging foods or experiences through excessive pooping (the Irish would call this fondly “a blowout”) could potentially emotionally impact someone into experiencing negative symptoms!

Wrapping It Up

So to recap: can diarrhea cause a herpes outbreak? Well, it’s not listed as a direct trigger for outbreaks in the majority of cases, but with further study and potentially millions of dollars in funding (call me though if you’ve got some extra cash), we may be able to prove that there’s strong association between the two. So go ahead folks and continue eating your hot wings while living your everyday herp life because hey-ho gotta poop when nature swings amirite?
