Calories in 1 4 cup pecan halves?
If you’re anything like me, counting calories makes you want to eat all the things. Sadly, we can’t just ignore the impact that food has on our waistlines (or can we?) One question I’ve been asked about pecans is: how many calories are in 1/4 cup of pecan halves?
The answer… Drumroll please!
200. Yup, you read that right! A quarter cup of those delightful little nutty treats will set you back 200 calories.
But don’t despair
Now before we go any further let’s take a moment to realize this fact doesn’t mean “no more pecans for us”. Far from it actually! See below for some tips and tricks on how to fully enjoy those tasty little nuts without piling on too many pounds:
Moderation is key
First and foremost – moderation is key. While 1/4 cup might seem like a teensy bit when compared with other scrummy snacks out there (I’m looking at you popcorn), it certainly adds up over time. Totally cutting them out isn’t realistic- but portioning well is definitely doable.
Pair with savory foods
Another hack worth noting here involves coupling your pecans with something savory rather than sweet. Two words: cheese plate!
Don’t be scared about incorporating some sourdough or crackers alongside your favorite cheeses (a soft brie normally fits the ticket). Add olives or pickles if desired – seriously guys, life changing.
When doing this, stick to around ten or so per day and trust me – they’ll go much further as an accompaniment rather than scarfing ’em down as a solo snack!
A great supplement of Omega-3s
New-ish research is also really starting to show the true benefits of nuts and their inherent levels of healthy monounsaturated fats. Also, pecans act as a great source for heart-healthy omega-3s.
So you know what they say – everything in moderation, including obsessions with calories which 9/10 don’t actually help us out all that much in the long run…
Final Verdict:
Whether or not you’re counting calories (personally, it gets too exhausting), pecans are an excellent choice when thinking about ways to boost your overall health.
They offer healthy sources of good-for-you fats, key proteins, vitamins and minerals too. A salted serving here or there certainly doesn’t mean we should cut them from our diets completely – but rather sprinkle them on top occasionally!
