Breaking Silence: 3 Things You Should Never Talk About

Whether you’re at a dinner party, in a job interview, or just chatting with friends, there are some topics that should never be brought up. Of course, people love to talk about controversial subjects and stir the pot. But if you don’t want to offend anyone and keep your relationships intact, avoid mentioning these three things:

Religion – Pitfall of Personal Beliefs

Religion is one of those touchy subjects that can easily lead to divisive arguments. That’s why it’s advised as safer not discussed in public settings. It’s perfectly fine to have personal beliefs or lack thereof but delving into religious ideations could open a huge pandora’s box.

That being said most people find themselves drawn towards conversation surrounding religious activities like charity work that doesn’t specifically highlight their belief system.

Engaging in interfaith dialogues serve as perfect opportunities for individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds to come together and showcase universal elements.” Oh Yes!!! We said “showcase”,”universal” all we need is “Harmony,” $1000 bucks borrowed from Dad later …….We’ve achieved world peace!!!

Politics- Oh Laws!

Discussing politics is like playing russian roulette even if both parties sharing similar views.. According to Pew Research Center, political discussions among family members lead over half of U.S adults who describe political disagreements within their families experiencing strain or tension with relatives…Surprised?Don’ be!

But hold on for second…

If the aforementioned subject was deal breaker then how does democracy manifest itself ?

It would mean individuals becoming more aware of having conscious conversations (without bringing emotions/ego etc). Understanding Politics does not only entail knowledge based on choice between labour vs conservative but ranges across Foreign policy welfare States Revolution & Governance.(Sounds easy right)

Now; I’m not suggesting we’ve advanced enough as human beings especially after looking at recent events but at least we can work on creating engaging /respectful discussions around these topics rather than childlike arguments and bickering.

Money- Who’s counting?

Talking about Money is like showing off an extensive collection of rare vintage watches constantly …No one asked for it, James!

On a more serious note – like religion and politics -discussions centered around finance matters are best avoided in most settings. You never know who might get offended or intimidated especially if there’s a considerable financial difference between those participating in the discussion.

Discussing raises/promotions/inheritance …

Can lead to unnecessary envy or unrealistic expectations. It’s great to financially support each other but avoid referring to specific figures unless it’s absolutely necessary. For all, you know Joe could be earning 1 million dollars per annum with legit monopoly money rolls. And if your bad luck did catch up why not take this cue as motivation to save more, hustle harder and invest wisely.

Let’s conclude here before my broker calls reminding me of my measly investment returns compared Wall Street Stakeholders…..

To sum things up, avoiding certain conversations can maintain peace/cordiality within different environments; Highlighting sensitive conversation tips that reduce the chance of hostile/non progressive disagreements listed below:

  • Curate a dialogue/theme based on audience present
  • Be Political Correct(Tone wise)
  • Articulate Daily Experiences
  • Talk About Sports(as farfetched from Religion, politics &Money consider nothing should happen right?)

Now I’ve imparted some wisdom onto you go forth! And never forget what MARY MONROE once said ‘’Opinions are like assholes—everyone has them.”
