Are metamucil capsules as effective as the powder?

Have you ever found yourself staring at the fiber supplement section of your local health food store with a feeling of abject confusion? Perhaps you’ve even been paralyzed with indecision, unable to choose between two different types of Metamucil – capsules or powder. If so, fear not; we’re here to shed some light on this important topic.

What is Metamucil and Why Do We Need It?

Let’s start with the basics: what exactly is Metamucil? Essentially, it’s a type of fiber supplement designed to help keep your digestive system functioning smoothly by promoting regularity and helping to lower cholesterol levels1. Sounds pretty great, right?

For most people, getting enough dietary fiber can be a challenge. However since sugar addiction has become widely prevalent in modern society due to overconsumption our digestive systems have never been worse off. The average American consumes only 16 grams per day of dietary fiber — far less than the recommended daily intake for adults (25-38 grams)2. On top that processed foods are damaging our microbiome which makes digestion more challenging than it needs to be.

Enter Metamucil! This popular brand offers two forms: powder and capsules. So which one should you choose? Let’s investigate.

Powder vs Capsules: What’s the Difference

The main difference between these two types boils down to texture and convenience:

Powdered

Metamucil powder dissolves into liquid very quickly . For those who enjoy tracking their granular deposits into water bottle adding MetaM comes naturally but making certain that you dissolve each scoop thoroughly could take approximately seven years depending on how strong your wrist game is….

Capsule form

Capsules offer more convenience due their portability…. plus no trips back home when Aunt Flow decides she wants spend quality time with you again.

And that’s about it. Both products contain the same active ingredient — psyllium husk fiber3, so neither type is more effective than the other objectively speaking.

Which One Should You Choose?

We wish we could give you a definitive answer to this question, but as with so many things in life, the choice ultimately comes down to personal preference.

Capsules

If convenience is your top priority and you tend to be someone who needs Metamucil while on-the-go then capsules may be right for you. They’re easier to transport AND don’t require liquid which can lead some avid walkers or runners feeling uncomfortable when they’re pounding pavement.

Powder

On the flipside, if price is a concern, powdered Metamucil certainly offers more bang for your buck overall-and let’s not forget those fun water bottle shaker cups! Some people prefer powder because it allows them greater flexibility in terms of dosing given their unique digestive challenges, since scoops come with visual guides as well making reading directions almost unnecessary. With powder one is also able mix with food and drink creating an endless cycle of gut nourishing meals any time day or night (just get appropriate sleep first though!).

Ultimately when choosing between two types of metamucil forms remember there isn’t right choice only what fits best into your own lifestyle- after all wherever or whenever one decides to put fiber deposits into themselves doesn’t matter at long as digestion receives aid from psyllium husk fiber!
