Achieve Your Dreams: Bullet Journal Goals Spread
The idea of a bullet journal is not new, but only few have discovered the true power it holds in achieving one’s dreams. In this article, we will show you how to create a realistic, achievable goals spread that will help turn your wildest dreams into reality.
What is a Bullet Journal?
A bullet journal is an analog system used as an organizing method. It was developed by designer Ryder Carroll and has since become popular with people all over the world. The beauty of this system lies in its simplicity and flexibility – there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to creating your own bullet journal.
Why Use A Bullet Journal For Goal Setting?
Goals help shape our lives by giving us direction and purpose. A study shows that people who set specific goals for themselves are 10 times more likely to achieve them than those who do not set any goals at all becaue it helps individuals prioritize their actions.
Using a bullet journal for goal setting can significantly increase our likelihood of successfully achieving those targets and reaching those dreams, whatever they may be!
Materials You Need
Before diving into creating your amazing goal spread, here are some materials you’ll need:
- Notebook (any size)
- Pen/pencil/highlighter/sticky notes/washi tape
There are no strict requirements on what type of notebook or pen/pencil/highlighter/sticky notes/washi tape etc which you should use; just make sure they’re sufficiently durable enough to last throughout the entire year!
To Do List:
Notebook
π’ Ideally dotted pages ποΈ
π΄ Other ruled pages also work well π
Pen
ποΈ Gel pens / fountain pens preferable βοΈ
Ball-point pen as an alternative π
π‘ Coloured writing implements can add variation π
Highlighter
π Colours brighter than markers are preferable π
However, thinner highlighters have better control π₯
π‘ If highlighters are unavailable any other text treatment also works π½
There! That was the most thoroughly extensive (some may say “unnecessarily”) materials list I’ve ever written for a bullet journal.
Setting Your Goals
Now that we’re all set up with our trusty notebook and implements to record our thoughts, let’s discuss how we can use this method to achieve those treasured goals!
Step 1: Brainstorm And Plan Your Goals
Firstly, jot down a list of everything you want to accomplish in your personal or professional life. Be as generous with your aspirations as possible – We will refine it later on. Get creative and detailed about what you really hope you can do over the course of the year.
Some examples could be:
- Build an online business from scratch π»
- Learn dancing for social events π
- Run a marathon π
As soon as you’re done brainstorming i.e getting them ALL onto paper without giving it much thought, now is not the time to prioritize.
We will set up that process later when categorize these dreams of yours but by writing them down now, at least they wont slip away into forgetfulness if left floating around in your mind indefinitely.
This is where things start getting real! This article assumes that being honest with yourself through admission even on paper is important ; The more detail-oriented you get initially , When planning long term visions ahead invariably become less daunting.
Getting Down To Brass Tacks:
Step 2: Categorize Each Goal
Once you have finished getting all thoughts out onto paper, start highlighting different sections according to each overarching segment i.e Career/ Financial / Personal/ Relationship.
With respective sub-sections underneath.
- Financial
- Pay off student loans π
- Save $10,000 in the bank π³
-
Invest money for passive incomeπΉ
-
Career
- Change job to a more meaningful oneπ
- No.1 Salesperson of your department π
- Complete required certification or training courses β‘
Even if you think you have only placed an item in its relevant category and that it cannot be further divided… try! Break down obstacles into manageable bitesizes, whoever said Rome was built in a day clearly never needed to achieve BIG DREAMS!
Step 3: Prioritize & Organize Them By Difficulty And Timeline
Now that we’ve got them all listed and categorized, next up is prioritizing according to difficulty level , meaning setting goals along axes like FEASIBILITY vs IMPACT.
Thisβll add much-needed structure to the process.
We often mistake easy tasks as necessary tasks when what is really worth our time are usually harder things which help us grow as individuals.
An MIT professor explains this well with:
“The outcomes we value most would require us to put ourselves at risk of failing non-trivially,” – Dr. Zuckerman
Further breaking down each dream lets folks be realistic about timelines too; imagine wanting something done before New Year when it’s past July already!
Take baby steps but don’t take forever because let’s face it.. slow dime beats fast nickel every single time right?
Letβs take an example above now from our earlier listing:
When considering both feasibility (budget/time/ resources) vis-a-vis impact (what luxury does completion of above task give me over say …not buying your morning latte?), one goal may seem like homework while another seems pretty straightforward/feasible e.g paying off that pesky $200 credit card due date fine.
While also noting deadline dates helps creating achievable albeit ambitious long term objectives.
Step 4: Make Your To-Do List and Bullet Journal Spread
Ready for the fun part? Time to create a bullet journal spread!
Start by deciding where you want to lay out your goals. The options are limitless since it wholly subject on personal choices .Some may opt for two-page monthly or yearly viewwhile others prefer separate Journalling notebooks completely.
Divide up the page (or pages) according to how much space each section will require.
Use solid colour borders, shapes/ different brush strokes / stickers – whatever strikes your fancy truly as long as it makes recognition of items easier at first glance.
Don’t forget labelling so that nothing is missed due to misplaced attention!
Then start copying out all of your dreams in their respective appropriate sections. Highlight them in some way if they appear crucial enough not be forgotten!
Categorize your tasks priority wise e.g main goal heading being highlighted blue with a subheading listed below in green shaded box
Best way towards completion?Mould mini process models toward bigger dream?
Let’s take our finance listing from earlier:
“`
Finances
β
Invest money for passive income
βΌ Save $10,000 in bank
Setting Priority
Measurable plan by dividing into smaller milestones
August : set aside $1200 saved within one month aim
research sources & investing strategies
October 1st : File taxes giving an overview over already
acquired payouts(through ‘option A’)
Following this trend can help simulate year round performance tracking while also helping prioritize steps needed before taking BIG tests like MCATs/GMATs/SATs etc which end up shaping years down the line! ππ
Wrapping Up:
Now we’ve covered ways and techniques through which using a bullet journal can aid turning pipe dreams into reality.
While implementing these is neither easy nor quick, it is worth your time effort and money once you tick off even some of items from the list because truly:
Some goals are so worthwhile that they take an entire lifetime to achieve! π
Hence why not start today? Organize and prioritize those passions as laid out in this article.
Once done,Get started on creating this bullet journal such a rock solid instrument for personal goal setting, you’ll want everything down by designed reflective look anyway. Just remember to mix fun & function through symbols, headers , imagery and cheerful charts!
Who knows which one of these listed hopes will change your life – forever?!
