Abortion what is it?

When it comes to the issue of abortion, there is no shortage of strong opinions. Some people believe that a woman’s right to choose should always come first while others argue that life begins at conception and therefore any termination is morally wrong. But what exactly is abortion? Let’s take a closer look.

The Basics

At its most basic level, abortion refers to the termination of a pregnancy before the fetus has reached viability (which typically occurs around 24 weeks). There are two main types of abortion: medical and surgical.

Medical Abortion

A medical abortion involves taking medication (usually Mifepristone or Misoprostol) to induce an early miscarriage. This method can only be used in pregnancies that are less than ten weeks along (the earlier, the better, as they say).

Surgical Abortion

Surgical abortion can be performed during both early- and late-stage pregnancies. Here are some different types:

  1. Vacuum Aspiration: A thin tube is inserted into the vagina and cervix to suction out the contents from inside.
  2. Dilation & Curettage (D&C): After dilating your cervix with medication or instruments, tissue lining inside your uterus will then scraped away with a special instrument called curette.
  3. Dilation & Evacuation (D&E):
Your uterus gets dilated- making it easier for all pregnancy bits such as tissues and blood clots go out naturally once you get them expelled through another process
    • Embedding balloon catheter which creates space between amniotic sac wall so tube passes easily afterwards.
      5.-Hysterectomy_abdominal removal/pull out.

These methods require anesthesia/anesthetic shot due to potential discomfort/ pain during procedure depending on individual tolerance levels.

It’s important prepare beforehand by eating light meals/snacks and avoiding strenuous movements /lifting during the day before/APPOINTMENT.

The Controversy

The discussion surrounding abortion can quickly become heated due to its highly controversial nature. Pro-life advocates argue that life begins at conception, and therefore any termination of a pregnancy is tantamount to murder. On the other hand, pro-choice activists believe that it is ultimately up to each woman to decide what happens with her own body.

When It’s Illegal

Abortion laws vary around the world, but many countries have some form of restriction or ban on abortions after a certain amount of time has passed in the pregnancy (usually 24 weeks). In some places like Northern Ireland & Malta all forms are illegal unless mother’s life is threatened.

Why Do Women Seek Abortion?

There are numerous reasons why women may choose to have an abortion:

  • They don’t feel prepared or capable enough for raising a child (which could lead into increased risk factors such as violence against mothers who don’t terminate resulting into consequences)

  • A medical issue arises which poses a threat to her health upon completion of childbirth/continuing gestation will be physically harmful_

Significant change in circumstances since falling pregnant financial issues, housing problems etc

[Numbered List]:

2. Personal or religious belief against this pregnancy/form of family planning
3. Lack Of knowledge-based on sexual education/ awareness; Poor access to medical services

Conclusion

Regardless of where you stand on the issue, abortion is a difficult and complicated subject that should not be taken lightly. It’s important for informed decisions regarding reproductive health based on personal beliefs & rightness depending individual choice being made and making sure medically licensed professionals are involved who ensure safety measures during such procedures.
