Over the weekend, Sarah Mucek and Meghan Rose sat down via the internet magicks of Gchat and interviewed each other about the upcoming Atlas Improv Anniversary Show (this Thursday, March 4, at the High Noon Saloon). Sarah is a current member of the troupe, and Meghan is a former member as well as the current guitarist/singer for Little Red Wolf - who are playing the show along with the Daredevil Christopher Wright. The following transcription may or may not be the only thing that remains of the digital event. No other remains have been found.

SARAH: Hey, we've got a show together! The Atlas Improv Birthday Bash! This Thursday!

MEGHAN: So that means Atlas is six years old in the year 2010 which is this year.

SARAH: Yeah, we're totally in kindergarten and losing our two front teeth. We're adorable.

MEGHAN: Let me take a picture of you and your backpack on the front steps.

SARAH: Let me just cinch my t-shirt in one of these plastic 'no smoking' signs.

MEGHAN: So Atlas was born in 2004.

SARAH: Yup! Atlas was the phoenix that rose from the ashes of Madison ComedySportz. Mary Parmentier and Bryan Judkins, the managers at ComedySportz-Madison, wanted to do more than short scenes and games - they wanted to push the talents of the company. So they did. They formed Atlas to do stuff like long-form improv, which is way harder and amazing to watch. It was something that the whole troupe was passionate about - even the house managers (box office guys) - everybody quit their jobs at ComedySportz and went unpaid to Atlas. Atlas has been doing improv on its own terms ever since.

I gazed into the mirror, wild, bloodshot eyes staring back, and a shiny piece of laminate shining shinily around my neck. It was Thanksgiving morning, and I was ready to journalize the hell out of family dinner.

“Are you ready?” My wife asked.

“Yer goddamn right,” I responded professionally.

She entered the bathroom to check, compelled to gaze upon my reporterly power.

“You’re naked except for that stupid filmfest press pass from like eighth months ago,” she observed.

“Note to self: wife is very observant. Recruit her for investigative reporting.” I spoke into my recorder. At least, I think I was holding a recorder. Just in case, I played it cool, wiping the blood off of my nose. I don’t remember when or how it started bleeding.

“Get dressed.”

Doug Gordon is a man of many talents. He works for Wisconsin Public Radio, doubles as Scottish zombie comedian Angus MacAbre, directed many projects including the mockumentary, “The Zombeatles: All You Need Is Brains.”  His latest endeavor is hosting Commentaroke, a Weird Al Yankovic parody show fused with karaoke. When Gordon first emailed me about this idea, I was intrigued, so I sent him a few questions asking that he explain it all in his own words.

Dane101: What exactly is Commentaroke?

Doug Gordon (DG): The easiest way to explain Commentaraoke is through “The Commentaraoke Equation” – Weird Al Yankovic + Karaoke = Commentaraoke.

Commentaraoke gives people the chance to unleash their inner Yankovics by writing their own parody lyrics to their best-loved and/or most-hated songs. I figured it was time to put the danger back into karaoke. It seems to me that karaoke has become too safe and sanitized, too domesticated, if you will. Of course, the Gomers have taken karaoke to the next level with “Gomeroke” but I think we can go even further – hence, Commentaraoke.

20090925.gifDane101 is excited to join the Majestic Theatre in presenting the infamous Gallagher. The comedian most famoulsy known for smashing everything from cottage cheese to watermelons on stage will be making a special appearance on October 15. The 63-year-old comedian who rose to fame during the 80s with numerous live specials on Showtime continues to perform nearly 100 shows a year. This is a unique opportunity to catch him in a smaller than usual live venue where nearly any seat on the floor could be within splatter range. Gallagher isn't all about smashing. He built a reputation around his keen observational comedy discussing American pop culutre and politics.

The show is $25 across the board and those arriving early will get first dibs on the front row. The Majestic is hoping to create a carnival atmosphere outside of the venue. What does that mean? You'll have to turn up to find out.

Something weird happened on Twitter the other day. As a fan of Michael Ian Black's brand of comedy I follow his tweets (@michaelianBlack) and I noticed he was doing some sort of advertising campaign with @The_Klondikebar. If you tweeted at The Klondike Bar you could win an opportunity to exclusively host the latest Michael Ian Black Klondike Bar video. As someone who grew up with Klondike Bars and will still occasionally stock them in my freezer I decided this was a campaign I could get behind. I sent the Klondike Bar a rather cheesy tweet: "I was raised on Klondikes, Reese's is my fave and a Michael Ian Blackberry bar would be delicious." That isn't a lie. I would honestly eat a Michael Ian Blackberry Klondike Bar if it existed. Mmmm...dark chocolate over blackberry ice cream is simply divine (Klondike, make this happen). Next thing I knew, Dane101 had won the exclusive rights to host this video for one week.

Why is Michael Ian Black hitting the streets and asking people what they would do for a Klondike Bar? Because Klondike Bars now have a thicker, more chocolatey shell. The video is below and once you finish watching it feel free to revisit this interview Dane101 conducted with Mr. Black during his 2006 tour with Michael Showlater.

Mike Birbiglia

Comedian Mike Birbiglia is a regular contributor to Chicago Public Radio's This American Life and recently completed his one-man Off-Broadway show Sleepwalk With Me. In advance of his show at the Barrymore on Wednesday, September 30, Dane101's Michael Donnelly talked to Birbiglia about past trips to Madison, his inability to avoid awkward situations, and the devotion of his fans.

Dane101: How's your tour been going so far?
