hiphopmain033008.jpgAfter a successful 2007, the agenda is now set for Hip Hop As A Movement Week 2008 in Madison. The annual Madison event will be April 18-26 with events throughout the University of Wisconsin campus. This year's event starts with "Femme Fresh: Women’s Music Hip Hop Festival." "Femme Fresh" seeks to highlight the role of women in hip hop and this year's performers include Psalm One, Butterscotch, Apani B Fly, Rhythm Queenz, and DJ Garnetta. The official kick-off event will be held on April 19 and features Little Brother, Solillaquists of Sound, and the Fall Guys

The week is end capped with one of the most popular events of the festival "Breakin' the Law" featuring breakdancing crews from around the world. Testament to the success of the event is this year's move from University space to the classy Monona Terrace (last year nearly 2000 attendees crammed into the Memorial Union's Grand Ballroom, view photos and our coverage). In addition to a wide swath of panels and discussions (schedule available below) this year's festival includes the screening of two films: "Bomb It!," a documentary investigating the explosion of graffiti as a guerrilla art form across five continents, and "Break Borders," "a 30 minute documentary spanning Boston, Melbourne, Hong Kong, and Macau, follows several b-boys through their daily lives, practice sessions and fierce b-boy battle competitions."
