Spring Election 2008

Politics | Election 2008

Wisconsin's spring elections take place today, Tuesday, 1 April.

As always, you can register at the polls on the day of the election, and most things with your address on it (including an ID card, lease, bill, or paycheck) can be used for identification. If you don't know where to vote, you can look up your polling place at the city clerk's web site.

To find out what's on your ballot ahead of time, you can look it up at the WI Voter Public Access site.

Turnout is expected to be low, with many candidates for School Board and County Supervisor positions running unopposed. The biggest draw is likely to be the contentious race for Supreme Court between incumbent Louis Butler and challenger Mike Gableman. You can read statements by the candidates in response to the League of Women Voters.

Finally, there's a ballot question to see whether voters support amending the state constitution to do away with the so-called Frankenstein Veto that allows the governor to eliminate individual words and stitch together entirely different bills than those passed to him.
