Derby in Dairyland: An Interview with Charm City All Stars Captain Mibbs Breakin' Ribs
With Derby in Dairyland just a day away, Victoria, a.k.a. Elle Machete, has been interviewing Captains of teams that will be descending upon Madison. She now heads out to Baltimore for an interview with Charm City Roller Girls Captain Mibbs Breakin' Ribs.
How long have you been skating with Charm City, playing with the All-Stars and captaining?
I have been with CCRG since 060406. I have been with the allstars since I think last Feb or March...I played 1 game of their first season and I have been a Captain since November last year.
What do you love about roller derby? (Or to rephrase: "Dude, how awesome is roller derby, right?")
Holy shit, what don't I love....I love that I get to celebrate my 30th birthday skating (10/10). It has been an amazing transformation for me in my life. I feel like it has helped me find the confidence I needed to be a happier person. I feel so proud of women for being tough and attractive all at the same time. It is so bad ass to wear glitter and knock the piss out of people. I am amazed by the spirit that grown women have and share as team mates. I literally could go on and on at how ridiculously amazing roller derby is on so many levels but then you have to be a part of it to really get it. Really it is anything you want it to be from a super social event to the most intense competion to the greatest party ever....I am really excited to be able to be a strong woman in this time who is cheered on for being fierce. Roller derby is really just the best!
How has your team been preparing coming in to the Eastern Region Tournament?
You know the typical skating till your legs fall off, blocking drills with sumo wrestlers, eating babies for breakfast....oh and drinking lots of water too..;)
How has your roster developed over the last year? What rookies and veterans should we look out for?
It has been awesome, we have some members from the beginning still here with us kicking ass and a few that came in when I did and then some brand spankin' new ladies that have busted their asses to get to the competitive level. You should watch out for the whole damn team! We know we are playing a team sport here! All my ladies are the hotness, you may have heard of or seen some play Joy Collision our other Captain and Dolly Rocket our TT Coach.....You couldn't have missed Flo Shizzle's Golden ass, frenzy shiny eyes or Rosie the Rioter (She is our Iron Woman and has played in all of our TT games), don't be fooled by the smile on Pistol Whip she will definitely kick your ass and still smile about it....lol. Coach Ballbricker, Holly and Lady Q had injuries at one point or another in their career and it just pissed them off and made them fiercer, the lovely long legged Duchess...really I could tell you how amazing each of our ladies are but you have to see it for yourself!!!!
Who do you expect to be the fiercest competition? Any long-standing rivalries?
I expect to go into each game as that team is the toughest we will ever play. I dont think there are any long standing rivalries.....I will say personally it was tough getting my ass handed to me last November in Rose City but I realized a- My ass is best not served to me and b-Getting my ass kicked is a great motivator!!!! I think each game and team has been a lesson and an experience that has helped us grow to be a stronger team.
What Madison attraction are you looking forward to seeing?
The hotel and the place I will be playing roller derby...lol. I am rather focused about why I am in Madison....but honestly Madison is full of really nice people. When we came up in July the team and crowd were amazing!
What's your favorite kind of cheese?
I frickin' love cheese are you kidding me....just one?? Probably Provolone but I really like all kinds and if your buying I am eatin!!! xoxo

Mibbs, really breaks ribs?
Of all the skaters I saw at the CCRG vs DD game this summer, Mibbs really impressed me. She is a BIG girl and still has a wicked fast get-up and regeneration, I couldn't believe it. A "roll" model, for sure. Okay, now I am really excited. I can't wait to see everyone play this weekend. 20 bouts! Eep!
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday Mibbs! Madison will show you a good time for sure :)
