The first match featured the Vaudeville Vixens against the Unholy Rollers in the Grudge Match. Both teams progressed significantly this season, but found themselves on the undercard again. Image from Chris Norris, see more here. The match started slow, as bodies covered the floor repeatedly in the first half. Scoring was minimal early as the teams found their groove. As the half ended, the Vixens lead 40-35. The Vixens extended their lead to 10 early in the second half with a 14-8 jam. The Rollers would slowly cut into the lead, and with six minutes remaining it was at one point. A 4-0 jam by Back Doris with 1:30 left gave the Rollers the lead 70-68. Wildberry Punch would get the lead back for the Rollers on the last jam of the night, score two points and call it with 25 seconds left to give the Rollers the win 72-68. The Reservoir Dolls and Quad Squad have played every year for the championship since the inception of the league. The battle was fierce, pitting the speed of Mouse and the Reservoir Dolls against the depth of Quad Squad. In easily the most physical match of the year, there were numerous injury stoppages and penalties. The teams went blow-for-blow in the first half, resulting in a 48-47 score in favor of the Dolls. The bout was full of double-digit runs. Thunder Kitten started off the second half for the Quad Squad with a 13-1 jam. After an injury timeout, Mouse ripped off an 11-3 run to close the gap. Mouse would score 50 points in the bout, but it was not enough to overcome the excellent team play of the Quad Squad, who won their second championship with a 98-87 victory. |
