March Madness: Here Come the Cinderellas

Sports | Badgers

Davidson_Combo_LogoCP11.jpgThis year when I entered a college basketball pool, I had my share of Cinderella teams picked to upset “the big boys.” My friends smirked when they saw I had Davidson beating Georgetown.

“The Big East is the best conference in college hoops,” a friend informed me. “Georgetown will slow them down and make them play their style of basketball.”

After beating Georgetown last weekend 74-70, the Davidson Wildcats meet the Badgers in the Sweet 16 Friday night at 6 p.m. Those that once scoffed at my bracket now hope I am wrong, as I have the feisty Davidson team beating the Badgers.

Davidson finished the season 28-6, and has not lost a game yet this year. They are lead by Stephen Curry, son of former NBA player Dell who had a short stint with the Milwaukee Bucks. They are one of the toughest teams left in the tournament, period.

However, the Badgers are tougher.

Through two games in the tournament, the Badgers offense has come alive. I was worried they would not score enough to keep up with Kansas State, but Bucky eased those fears.

The Badgers have also have played lights-out defense. In the second half of the Kansas State game, phenom freshman Michael Beasley was held to six points in the second half. Michael Flowers, the Badger’s best defensive player will undoubtedly guard Curry. This should be a fun match up to watch.

Badger fans around the state hope the clock strikes midnight for Cinderella tonight. Personally, I would have no problem if Davidson messed up my bracket, giving Wisconsin its first Elite Eight appearance in years.
