Badgercentric has the best overall breakdown of the entire game. He gives the Badger MVP to Krabby who had his best game last night. Badgercentric also points out, "30 wins for the second straight season. Just think about that for a minute. Thirty wins, two years in a row. Given where this program was 20 years ago, it's simply amazing the levels it has reached in the last 10." Brats and Beer writes, "A nice solid game last night by the UW men’s basketball team in their opening game of the NCAA tournament. They were a little sloppy with 17 turnovers, but overall I thought the Badgers dealt with Cal Fullerton’s speed pretty well." Spartans Weblog does a round up of all the games and has this to say about the Wisconsin win, "The Badgers used their size advantage to dominate on the glass on both ends of the court. 18 for 38 on offensive rebounding chances (47.4%). 32 for 39 on defensive rebounding opportunities (82.1%)." ParkerJ questions Bo Ryan's coaching strategy, "It's frustrating to see Ryan stubbornly refusing to change up his style, even when its obviously not the most effective. When I see Marcus Landry, a college power forward, dribbling the ball behind his back and past their shooting guard, I know the team has the talent to run a "big" lineup and stay with the other team. This should have been a complete blowout. It's frustrating to see it end so close." Fischernarty writes, "The Badgers won the game. The Titans won respect. 'They’re smaller,' Wisconsin forward Brian Butch said, 'but that didn’t mean a whole lot.' No, it didn’t." The Bucky Channel says it was a good day overall for the Big Ten, "this Badgers victory puts the conference at 3-0 for the day. Granted, there were a handful of people who rooted against "Wisky" in hopes of seeing a high seed go down on the Tournament's first day, but the Badgers would not be that team." As for the MVP, even though they lost, I personally thought it should go to Cal State's Josh Akognon who pretty much carried his team. Bodog Beat seems to agree, "Akognon schooled the Badgers all contest, scoring 31 points and knocking down five of 12 threes, but he didn't have much help. There was only one other Titan that reached double digits." As for Saturday's match up, Wisconsin Sports Bar is projecting a Badgers victory, "I say Bucky since Flowers will shut him down [Beasley] and Bucky will deny everything else for the Sweet 16." |
