Dairyland Dolls narrowly defeat Baltimore's Charm City Rollergirls
On Saturday night, Madison's all-star derby team, the Dairyland Dolls, squared off against the Charm City Rollergirls. Hailing from Baltimore, Charm City was ranked higher than us in the Women's Flat Track Derby Association rankings. As soon as the bout began, it was evident that they deserved their ranking. I've seen a lot of bouts in the past four years, and this was by far one of the best. Both teams played great and the score was neck and neck for most of the night, excepting a 14 point lead they opened up when our jammer was in the penalty box.
The crowd was smaller than your usual intraleague bout, but our Dairyland Dolls mascot whipped them into shape with a Heelys induced wave move and more cowbell than you can imagine.
In the end, we won it in the last jam. Mouse came out and showed us why she's a clutch player and a great athlete in that final jam. The final score was 108 - 101.

amazing...
i've missed a total of five bouts in the last three years and i say, hands down, this was the best bout i've seen. the level of play was so intense. both teams were unbelievable. joy collision on charm city's team is probably one of the best jammers i've ever seen. and i practically lost my voice in the last jam, when charm city's jammer got the lead jammer position while mouse was stuck in the pack. and i completely lost it when their jammer picked up her fourth minor and was called out. i've never been so engrossed in a game before. our dairyland dolls are absolutely amazing. and i can't wait to see them play at derby in dairyland, the eastern regionals in october!!

It seems brighter than usual in these pictures. Did they have lights on?
By the way, Chris, I stumbled across your zine last week. Nice job.

the brighter lights is actually a rule for WFTDA (women's flat track derby association).
also, here's another great recap: http://www.derbynewsnetwork.com/2008/07/21/17_madison_outlasts_13_charm_city_108101

That Was One INCREDIBLE Game!
I'm a Roller Derby Newbie, but I've been to every game the last 2 years... at this point, just beginning to get comfortable with the rules.
I've gotta say that this was the most astonishing, gut wrenching game I've ever seen, and probably WILL see for a long time!
THANKS to the Dairyland Dolls! We LOVE ya!
