Doing it for the Cause: Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund Benefit Show

redkwwf.jpgI’m not sure how many of you have noticed this but right now the economy is in the tank, and while it may have yet to hit you, there are families all across Wisconsin who need your help. This past holiday season you heard or read about many charities across the nation who fell well below their goals for 2008. While we can’t help with those figures now, you can still help one special organization. I'm talking about the Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund (KWWF), an independent, statewide organization dedicated to helping those in need with their energy requirements.

According to the KWWF website, 56,833 households in Wisconsin were faced with life-threatening energy needs in 2006, and most of those were the disabled and young children. Imagine, given the current financial debacle we are in, what that number might be now. I can say with confidence that I don’t think it has gone down. We may be paying less for fuel than we were three years ago, but when you combine that with a staggering amount of job loss and budget cuts you can see where your help is needed now more than ever.

Luckily the High Noon Saloon has stepped up to lend a hand to those in need. On Friday, January 9th at 10:00 p.m., come rock out with some great bands for an even better cause. Taking the stage will be Knuckel Dragger, United Sons of Toil and the Killer Dolphin with Rabies. The cover is $8.00 and it is a 21+ show, and for each ticket ticket sold the State of Wisconsin will not only match it but double it. That is a $24.00 donation to the KWWF for each $8.00 ticket purchased.

Madison music veterans Knuckel Dragger take surf rock to a whole new level, blending punk and metal to make a once fun loving genre into a masked nightmare. Alcohol fueled and bass heavy, I don’t think Knuckel Dragger’s mothers gave them enough hugs when they were kids. Why the hell else would you want to throw on a monster mask and deliver such an aural mind-fuck? I wonder what Dick Dale would think?

United Sons of Toil put on one of the best live shows in Madison and, as I mentioned in a previous article, their album, while superb, does them little justice. Their mathematic arrangements are technically sound and skull crushing at the same time. Their politically charged, volume shattering dirge is a great addition to an already great lineup.

The Killer Dolphin with Rabies’ album “Be Human” would have been my tenth best local album of 2008 if I could count that high. The Killer Dolphin with Rabies are for all intents and purposes a metal band, but it is hard to ignore some of the more subtle influential tinges of jazz, hardcore, and math-rock that are scattered throughout the album.

There is nothing like a night of face melting music to make everyone in attendance warm. All kidding aside, come out to show your support for three excellent bands and one excellent charity.
