Tuesday Tix: Lotus, Houses in Motion, Secret Machines, Spinal Tap, Weezer, and more!

dane101halloween.JPGFall is upon us; the leaves are falling from the trees and I’m putting on my winter weight and growing out my beard- it’s definitely my favorite season. With Autumn here it also signifies another seasonal tradition, great live music. This week’s tickets come compliments of the fine folks at the Majestic Theatre and I’ll be damned if they didn’t come through. As usual, be the first to comment below and you win a pair of tickets to the show you name in your subject line. Your name will be at the door (just make sure we have a way to identify who you are when you win).

Thursday October 23rd at 9:00pm Lotus with Family Groove Company

Philadelphia‘s Lotus have been around the block…when it comes to touring. Having formed in 1999 at a Mennonite college where dancing is/was banned and despite meeting in a Kevin Bacon nightmare Lotus will get you moving. Blending electronic dance and post-rock influences with a much heralded live show Lotus will show you why they have a devoted fan base from coast to coast.

Friday October 24th at 9:00pm Houses in Motion with Paulie

Cover bands are difficult to write about while some are able to pull off a great replication of what was a great band most fall on their face and only make the listener curse their existence. Lucky for you Houses in Motion are the former. Houses in Motion is a Talking Heads cover band from Madison and Chicago. According to their Myspace a typical performance consists of two sets; the first is a four piece band that focuses on the Talking Heads’ earlier out put while the second set brings a few more musicians into the mix and is more dedicated to the later material of the band. If Houses in Motion bring anywhere near the energy (which I have read they do) that the band they fashioned themselves after did then you are in for one hell of a night.

Saturday October 25th at 8:30 The Secret Machines with special guest The Dears and Freshwater Collins

Damn do I want to go to this show, but I know my wife would out on me if I went without her. With the indie rock psychedelic of The Secret Machines and the orchestral pop of The Dears you are in for a treat as this is one of the stronger bills I have seen come through town in the last couple months. Whoever claims these tickets know that I envy you.

Friday October 31, 7:30 p.m., Dane101's Rockin' Holla' Ween featuring Spinal Tap, Manchester United, Weezer, Nirvana, and the Kinks.

Dane101 will once again be throwing one of the greatest Halloween parties in the Universe when they bring together five amazing bands covering five amazing bands. The Gomers will be headlining this show and they will be going all out as Spinal Tap (we here there will be many, many surprises in their set). Manchester United is Tangy performing songs born in Manchester U.K. including the Stone Roses, Smiths, Oasis, and more. Apparently Nothing pull on the green sweater as they take a nod as Nirvana. The Buddy Hollies will undo said sweater as they perform the music of Weezer. And the Low Czars will rock you all of the night and all of the day as the whip out the hits of the Kinks. Doors at 7:30 p.m. The Kinks kick off at 8:30 p.m. Lots of prizes for your buttocks to enjoy.
