Lee "Scratch" Perry, the 72-year-old king-of-dub, has postponed his Wednesday night show at the Majestic Theater due to a family emergency. According to the Majestic "Lee and his wife had to unexpectedly board a plane to Zurich yesterday and will be unable to make it back to the states for their scheduled Madison show." Perry currently lives in Switzerland with his wife Mireille. The show has been rescheduled for August 25 and tickets purchased for tomorrow will be honored at that show. If you need a refund that can be done at point-of-purchase or by emailing the Majestic.
The postponement isn't all bad. For one, Perry's new album, Repentance, will be released on August 19. The album was co-produced by Andrew W.K. and features guest artists including Brian Chippendale of Lightning Bolt, Ari Up formerly of legendary UK punk rock band The Slits, a track co-produced by Hot Chip, and Don Fleming - the notorious producer of some of the greatest albums from Sonic Youth, the Smithereens, Pete Yorn, and more. Can you say "Hello, album of Awesomeness"? While on the subject of Perry, Dane101 would like to take this opportunity to reach out to the Sundance Theater and encourage them to bring the currently film festival touring Lee "Scratch" Perry biopic The Upsetter to town the weekend preceding Perry's performance on August 25. We can just make it a big 'ol Pipecock Jaxxon Fest. Below is a trailer for The Upsetter followed by a video of Perry performing the title track from his debut album. |
