Indie Queer night celebrates 1 year
Indie Queer, a queer-oriented club night started by up-and-coming promoter Liz Tymus with help from Bob Hemhauer celebrated one year of parties last Thursday night at the Shamrock. Liz, and IQ night were recently featured in local LGBT-oriented magazine Our Lives.
OL:What is iQ?
Liz:iQ is indie Queer. It's how I identify, it's how my closest friends identify. It's the music I choose to rock out to, the way I dress and carry myself. It's the party I throw for my community. It's my social scene and my personal self.
Indie Queer events have run the range from mid-sized shindigs at local taverns including Mickey's and King Club to raging costume parties such as the Halloween-themed event HalloQueen.
Some of the events have featured bands, including former Madisonian and hip-hop artist God-Des but Liz has indicated that the focus in the year to come will continue to be on dance-oriented events. Dane101 wishes Indie Queer night the best of luck in 2008!
