Own a piece of the Majestic (photo gallery included)

minicouchmajestic062807.JPGMatt Gerding and Scott Leslie officially closed on the Majestic Theatre yesterday for $1.3 million. The partners said the closing on the deal came a little later than expected so they now plan to be ready to open in October instead of September. In order to clear the space out so they can start renovations the Majestic will be holding a "garage sale" on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. Leslie and Gerding let Dane101 in to snap some pictures of the many items that will be up for grabs. Leslie essentially said everything must go.

Everything includes all of the sun mirrors, the turntables and other equipment in the DJ booth (including light mixers), the posters on the walls (all autographed), the classic handcrafted bar stools, the wacky furniture acquired years ago from the failed "Disney Quest - Chicago", the cocktail tables and cocktail stools, the giant paint brush, some speakers, televisions, the bizarre avant garde light fixtures, some mysterious computer equipment (see third to last picture), and even the moon. They need to get rid of it so they are selling everything dirt cheap. For example, the sun mirrors will go for $50 and the Disney sofas (probably worth quite a bit to a collector) are going for $100. Pictures of some of the items are below. They would be willing to hold some items for one or two days but would prefer purchasers take what they can at the time of sale (click on images to see them larger).

I wouldn't have known about it otherwise. I bought one of the chairs and it proved to be a hit within a minute of my bringing it inside.

Thanks for the post. An awesome opportunity to buy a piece of local history that I otherwise would have known nothing about. Ended up haggling with the new owner and bringing home three very opulent velvet chairs, and also being on the news. Priceless.
