Sleeping in the Aviary take flight through the blogosphere

sleepav_cd.jpgWhen you're a hardworkin' act like Madison's Sleeping in the Aviary, it pays to catch the ear of the President of one of the best indie promotion companies working the scene. Josh Bloom has a great deal of respect and when he posted an entry all about Sleeping in the Aviary on his Fanatic Promotion blog that was all it took for the rest of the blogosphere to stand up and pay attention to "Oh, This Old Thing?" (of course, creating buzz is his business, but he does for all the right things!)

Its the Money Shot says of the release:

Quote:
I just like these kids because they make short pop songs. There's a lot to be said about a song that is under two minutes and engaging enough to get you dancing alone in your bedroom, but not so short that you're left feeling like you didn't quite get enough. There's also a lot to be said about the fact that Sleeping In The Aviary make songs that fit into this category.

Necromuncher writes:

Quote:
The album's opening salvo dominates, suggesting early Thermals via mid-western garages and basements. From there its 20 minutes of kick-ass lo-fi power pop laced with strains of Buzzcocks crunch, Kinks hooks, and I swear, a dash of Ruins grandiose spazz.

Side One: Track One writes about Aviary's Pop Song:

Quote:
It's sloppy, low-fi and as catchy as anything that you are going to come across named Pop Song. The garage rock-esque undertones of the thing could probably carry it on its own but the raw vocals of Elliott Kozel and the way that they are thrown about in the most pop-punk of fashions are what really make this such a good listen.

75 or Less keeps it short, writing:

Quote:
There are thirteen tracks in 23 minutes but it's not hardcore punk, more power punk without the irritating and unnecessary final bridge, extra verse, chorus and guitar solo. Only two songs crack the three minute mark, while two come in at under one minute.

5 Acts is even briefer:

Quote:
Sleeping In The Aviary is a lot of fun - heavy on the hand clapping and the tambourine thumping.

Powerpop chimes in:

Quote:
"Pop Song" describes itself, and at this blog, that's good. "Another Girl" was good if iffy until that Kinksy riff at the 1:30 mark canceled reservations. Aha! I just noticed the FP blurb on SITA actually uses the word "spastic!" I knew it wasn't just me.

The Roaring Machine is plenty enthusiastic:

Quote:
Oh, fuck yes!

Hard, fast, noisy and addictive indie-pop at its finest. It is such an absolutely joy to hear something as jarring and as exciting as this. I'm not lying when I say I spilled tea all over myself lunging for the volume to turn it up up up.

Sleeping In The Aviary are a chaotic three piece band from rockin' (apparently), Madison Wiscosin.

And seeing as Sleeping in the Aviary is in the giving mood, here are the two songs Fanatic sent out to create this well deserved buzz.

Sleeping in the Aviary :: Pop Song
Sleeping in the Aviary :: Another Girl
