Eagles of Death Metal at the Annex
The Eagles of Death Metal rocked out at the Annex last Wednesday, October 25th. Opening the show was my favorite local act, Screamin' Cyn Cyn and the Pons (MySpace). I bought my tickets for the show before learning that they were opening and was pleasantly surprised when I found out they were. I'm not sure the rest of the crowd was. There was a guy behind me who yelled "Eagles" between Cyn Cyn songs. My girlfriend almost punched him. Shane, the singer, was decked out in a wonderful outfit consisting of cutoff shorts, suspenders, and platform mary jane shoes. See the rest of the pictures for more details. They did a great job in front of crowd that was somewhat unreceptive.
The Eagles of Death Metal came on and proceeded to blast us with their retro garage-rock sound. I've never seen them live and was a bit disappointed to see that Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme wasn't playing drums for EoDM on tour. The Eagles of Death Metal would almost be caricatures of rock stars if they didn't seem so damn sincere about what they were doing. I got the feeling that they really were appreciative of all the ladies in the audience, especially after calling for the 4th or 5th round of applause for the ladies. They played really well and seemed to be having a good time, as did everyone in attendance.
It was a good time and I'm glad I went. If you want to see Screamin' Cyn Cyn and the Pons, they'll be playing at the High Noon Saloon on New Year's Eve with Awesome Car Funmaker and a bunch of other bands.
