Madison dance clubs have seen sexual-themed events become their most well attended, high-profile, and profitable events. We counted at least 3 major monthly events including Fetish Night at the Cardinal, Leather + Lace at the Inferno and the newcomer, underwear party at Cafe Montmarte.

Although they share a lot in common, namely lots of scantilly clad people walking around and the lone scary guy standing in the corner leering at everyone, each event has it's own unique feel to it.

Leather + Lace, a monthly event at the Inferno, falls on the first Saturday of the month. Featuring EBM, trance, industrial, breaks, goth and powernoise spun by DJ's Mike Carlson and Whiterabbit, Leather + Lace has the most diverse musical lineup of the three events. It also has the most diverse crowd in terms of age, sexual orientation, and fetish-wear-of-choice.

One minute you may find yourself in a conversation with a guy wrapped from head to toe in duct-tape and the next minute you will be discussing home decoration with a dom girl who is using her boyfriend as a leg rest. With reasonable drink prices and an enthusiastic, interesting and diverse crowd, Leather + Lace is currently Madison's best sexual-themed club event.

Similar to, but not quite the same as Leather + Lace is Fetish Night brought to you by Madison's favorite dance bar, the Cardinal. Fetish Night normally falls on the second Tuesday of the month. The music, provided once again by DJ Mike Carlson, while not as varied as the music heard at Leather + Lace is really good. Mike takes you on a dark, sweaty journey through the darker side of electronic music, from industrial to trip hop to dirty, dark trance. It's hard not to find something to like.

The bartenders get into it too at the Cardinal and are probably partially responsible for the good turnout. The people who hang out at Fetish Night events are varied in background but because of its proximity to campus, it tends to attract a decent portion of college students looking to let loose and party.

The newcomer to the scene, the underwear party event at Cafe Montmarte is off to a pretty good start. Their past two events (the last one was on April 1st) have been at capacity most of the night. Admittedly that isn't really that many people considering the size of the venue but it seems to be one of their more popular events. The crowd is almost all 25 and under college student types with a few exceptions.

The music, spun by DJ Jeremy Thomas, Matty and DJ Montra is really hit or miss. It mostly consists of house, deep house, and house and R&B mashups. They could try throwing some variety, or electic track selections into the mix. Case in point, they played the (awesome) Cleptomaniac's track, All I Do, at least three times at the last event. It's a great song but it shows that the music needs some variety and tweaking. There was also at least one other song played at least twice in a three hour period.

The hot, hot crowd almost makes up for the repetitive music but the understaffed bar will ruin the event for you if you plan on trying to catch a buzz after getting there. Expect to wait 15-45 minutes to get a drink. Cafe Montmarte has a hot, successful, buzzworthy event on their hands if they can fix their service issues and tweak the music a little bit.
