bookfarmersmarket041707.jpgFrom 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. this Saturday, April 21st, the Annual Dane County Summer Farmer's Market will be opening on Capital Square!

Many of the delicious foods to come across include:
asparagus, dry beans, greenhouse cucumbers & tomatoes, lettuce, maple syrup, rhubarb, spinach, bunch onions, hanging baskets, bedding plants, perennial plants, cut flowers, morel mushrooms, delectable bakery goods, savory meats, and mouth-watering cheeses.

With all these great products kitchens are sure to be busy this weekend!

Here's a great recipe (with most ingredients from the market) to jump start Spring...

Chicken and Goat Cheese Burritos:
Ingredients-
1/2 onion
1 cup mushrooms thinly sliced
1 rotisserie chicken (or chicken breast cooked)
4 flour tortillas
1 cup spinach
1 cup goat cheese

Saute onion and mushrooms in large skillet until carmelized. (5 minutes)
Add chicken, heat through (5 minutes)
Lay out tortillas. In center layer spinach, chicken mixture, and goat cheese.
Wrap up burritos and enjoy!

I'm sure the market will be extremely busy even by 8 a.m.! I think the best time to go and get some deals on food and items is around 1 p.m. when vendors are packing up and trying to get home!

In any case, there are definitely lots of treats to find at the market, so get up early and head out to the capital!
Hopefully the weather will be as beautiful as it has been thus far this week!
