Cruisin' for a Boozin': The Truest Form of Flattery is Adair's Lounge

adairs012307.jpgDid you all ever go to The Slipper Club? I went to The Slipper Club. I actually really liked The Slipper Club. Once, me and my bff went as "punk is dead" zombies and got hit on by a Jack White. Once we went to see our favorite Madison band, The Window Smashers, and somehow someone ended up with a full bottle of vodka in their jacket pocket. I have many fond memories. So, when I was going to do my Tuesday rounds, (you know, buy one get one and karaoke at the Shamrock, and 1.50 rails at The 'dise)and my friend suggested that we go to Adair's Lounge, I was skeptical. She had been to a show at Adair's not long ago and said she had a very good time...AND since I had yet to find a new place to go for my reviews, I thought why the hell not?

So we sauntered next door to see the sights. What I saw was not overly impressive, nor was it overly unimpressive. The bar is a bit too well lit, but they have comfy couches (although I would like a nice table to put my fancy drink on) and although it was verrrry slow when we went there, Ms. Rita (whom I will talk about momentarily) assured me that on the weekends, they are much busier. Also, they will be carrying on the tradition of Saturday night Cabaret, which was another legendary aspect to The Slipper Club, which is pretty rad. Now, Ms. Rita (Adair) was my bartender, and I liked her more than quite a bit. Number one, she was sweet, talkative and funny, AND she likes booze. So there's already plenty going for her. She is also adept at handling overly intoxicated patrons (there was a sort of scandalous man there, who kept talking about how we all had to go to his funeral. Um, yeah).

When I asked Ms. Rita what she had for a signature drink, she said quickly "Oh, I'll make you an Adair's" and got right to work. When she realized she didn't have one of her ingredients, she quickly improvised and came up with this: pineapple juice, Malibu, Absolut Citron, lemonade and grenadine. She put the grenadine in the bottom which made for a very, very cute presentation and topped it off with a cherry; always a bonus. The drink was gorgeous and tangy, but not too much so. Citrusy, crisp, sweet and boozy. A fine combination. And for $6.00, I would buy it again, when I was feeling adorable. And rich.

Now, the best part about this evening, was when I went back to Ms. Rita, and expressed that I wanted another drink, but was unsure as to what I had a taste for. "Well," she said, "I've been thinking about this drink I've been wanting to make...do you like chocolate?" Um. Duh. So I replied affirmatively. She was swift and all-of-the-sudden there was a brown drink in front of me, with a, gasp, lemon in it. Buh?? "OK," she said. "Try it. Let's see." I looked it over. A very light brown, swirling around the the martini glass with a slice of lemon floating on top. I took a conservative sip. Hmm? OK, so it was kind of like this candy I remember having as a kid. Those A&W Root Beer Barrels? I totally loved them. What's In It? Creme De Cacao, Captain Morgan, a splash of soda and lemon. You have GOT to be kidding me. Fantastic. I told Ms. Rita so, and her response: "Well, then, I guess we'll name it after you. Chocolate Mercy." Oh my God. You people have GOT to go to Adair's and see if I am famous. Do it for me. Do it for Dane101. Do it for a new delicious Root Beer Barrel cocktail. Tell them I sent you. Then walk down the street and watch me sing Rocky Top at the Shamrock. WOOO!
