motherkings0513.jpgDane101 continues its weekly profile of Dane County Farmers' Market vendors with a sticky, sweet topping for your breakfast carbs, Mother King's maple syrup. Mother King's is owned by Dane County Farmers' Market board president Rick King, whose family has been tapping maple trees and making maple syrup for over 100 years.

Mother King's has participated in DCFM continuously since 1989 and on and off since the 1970's. Their booth is on the East Mifflin section of the square near Wisconsin Avenue. Along with a variety of maple syrup jugs and maple syrup derived products, they also sell perennials and wildflowers.

motherkings20513.jpgStop by and Rick will explain how maple syrup is made by boiling the sap from tapped sugar maple trees. It can take ten gallons or more of sap to make one quart of maple syrup. Maple syrup is produced in early spring but is available year round at the farmers' market.

In case you missed it, last week we profiled Northwood Farms. Check back next week for another Dane County Farmers' Market vendor profile and learn about where your food comes from.
