A yummy zine for Madison

Food | Market

yum0405.jpgA new regional zine named Yum! Yum! Yum debuted at the beginning of April, publishing and distributing a 24-page issue. Devoted to food and farming issues, and produced from the Madison Infoshop, it is currently soliciting contributions for its second issue, due out at the beginning of May.

According to an announcement about the zine and its search for contributors, "most anything is welcome as long as it relates to the growing, processing, distribution, consumption and enjoyment of food. Obviously, we're especially keen to receive locally oriented material – for instance, home-grown recipes, report-backs from relevant events, bad food-induced rants or good food inspired accolades, low-tech permaculture designs, artwork, poetry, opinion, etc."

The print-only zine includes a variety of articles, recipes, quotes, and press clips relating to corporate food concerns and home-grown solutions, but what is most useful are its calendar items.

These include announcements of events at Troy Gardens on the northside, a weekly calendar for all of the Dane County Farmers Markets, another weekly calendar for free community meals in Madison, a schedule of volunteer garlic mustard weeding in public parks this spring, and an April calendar for a gamut of food and farming goings-on.

Yum! Yum! Yum! also includes a two-part The Whitebreads comic (Stoner Nick's Corn and Stoner Nick's Corn 2 from Dan Durica, profiles of the Dane County Buy Local Initiative, and Madison city regulations for maintaining personal chicken coops.

According to the an announcement for the second issue, the first edition of "Yum! Yum! Yum! … was a phenomenal success thanks to the popular outpouring of stories, photos, recipes, cartoons, rants, etc."

Copies of Yum! Yum! Yum! are listed as available at the Madison Infoshop, Rainbow Bookstore, Catacombs Coffeeshop, Two Degrees Coffeeshop, the Mifflin St. Co-op, the Willy St. Co-op, and Lakeside Press.
