Dane101 Kicks Off 2009 with an Event Filled January

dubtaculistic.jpgWe didn't plan for it to happen this way, but all of a sudden we turned around and next thing we knew we had a full month of events planned (and it doesn't stop there...just wait until you see what we have planned for February and March). We have also listed a couple events that dane101 isn't presenting, but receive our seal of approval. Dane101, reshaping your Madison reality.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Brew and View featuring Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

January 16: Return of the full cast performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show Majestic Theare at 9 p.m.

Dane101 is honored to be lending the assist on presenting this event along with the Majestic. On January 16 Rocky Horror will once again shine in full theatrical and celluloid transvestite glory. Matt Gerding, co-owner of the Majestic, said the film is coming back due to popular demand, "The main reason we wanted to bring it back is sort of to pay tribute to the history of the theatre. I can't even count the number of people who have come up to me since we opened and told all about how the used to come see Rocky Horror here every Saturday at midnight...and how we HAVE to bring it back sometime. So it's sort of for all those people....hopefully all of those people will show up in droves and they can reminisce with each other. And party."

Will the Majestic allow audience props like rice, squirt guns, toilet paper, and more? Gerding says there may be some limitations, but they will try to stay as true to the spirit of the film as possible, "we are certainly encouraging everyone to dress up. We'll read through a list of rules before things start...probably no Super Soakers allowed...but most anything will be allowed (within reason, of course)."

The film will run at midnight, but there will be a pre-party featuring Madison's Null Device.

January 21: MadPubQuiz of Awesomeness: 2008 Year-In-Review Sundance Theater 8 p.m.

Last time we tried to do a year-in-review pub quiz was for 2007 and it snowed horribly, so we canceled. This year we are made of stronger stuff, so no matter what this quiz will happen. Besides, we will be at Sundance so if we get snowed in we can watch movies all night. The title says it all, eight rounds of questions about the year past. Topics include music, film, Madison, politics, television, and more...

January 23: Dane101 Endorsement! Repo! The Genetic Opera at the Oriental Theater in Milwaukee.

Dane101 tried really hard to bring this film to Madison as part of our winter musical film series (see Rocky Horror above and expect a second announcement in the coming week), but somehow it ended up in Milwaukee. So it goes. Obviously, this isn't a Dane101 event, but the movie looks so awesome and we wanted so much to bring it to you that we need to give it our stamp of approval even if it means driving your costumed ass to our sister city on the lake. The event includes a Q&A with the director. Let us know if you plan on going. We can carpool.

January 24: Dane101's Winter Dubtacular: Majestic Theatre at 9 p.m.

The Winter Dubtacular will transport you from the frigid Wisconsin tundra and to a tropical paradise of sea and sun. Providing entertainment will be Chicago's leading Dub crusaders The Drastics. Assisting with the musical heatwave will be Madison's Roots Collective and The Takebacks. WORT's Tropical Riddims host DJ FRP will be spinning throughout the night.

Don't worry about quelling a grumbling stomach as Jamerica will be catering the event with fantastic Jamaican cuisine. For the drinking class we will also be featuring numerous umbrella topped tropical drink specials. All of the televisions will be showing your favorite beach films (Weekend at Bernies, anyone?).

Entrance is $10, but if you wear a swimsuit we'll knock off $2. Doors open and food is served at 8 p.m.

January 31: Dane101 and Mayhem Productions present The Fire Ball at the High Noon Saloon Doors at 8 p.m.

We really wanted to host a New Year's Eve party and a masquerade ball, but we didn't actually want to spent our night working, so instead we teamed up with Mayhem Productions to bring you The Fire Ball on January 31!

Wisconsin's winter got you down? Chin up, lads and lasses! The Fire Ball will get you feeling warm and toasty in no time.

Put on by the folks who brought you last summer's sizzling Hot Mess drag and burlesque show, in association with Madison's best collaborative culture website, dane101.com - The Fire Ball on January 31st is a masquerade ball for the unconventional set.

Break out your best - whether that's full fetish gear, Victorian finery, Star Fleet dress blues, steam punk duds, or your old prom outfit - we want to give everyone an excuse to dress to the nines. We especially encourage the use of masks, since this is, y'know, a masquerade.

Featuring burlesque, drag, belly dance, and fetish performances by the likes of Foxy Veronica's Peach Pies, Tashar Dance, Madtown Hellcats Burlesque, a special performance from Sabbat de Sade's Karkus and much more - plus a super sexy dance party to round things out with none other than the fabulous Nick Nice!

This event will also be a fundraiser for Mercury Players Theatre and StageQ, Madison's best in alternative and LGBT theatre. Expect a few sneak-peaks from their upcoming productions of Vamp and Cloud 9.

Check back soon for more details and the performer line-up, to be solidified soon! Advance tickets will be available the first week of January at the High Noon.

C'mon, get warm with us.
