Total Recall: DPW alleging Alberta Darling colluded with special interest groups

Post by Jesse Russell on 8/4/2011 12:08pm

In a press conference this morning the Democratic Party of Wisconsin alleged that Republican State Senator Alberta Darling, who is currently involved in a recall election campaign, has committed multiple felonies. They're filing complaints with the Government Accountability Board, and the District Attorneys of Dane and Milwaukee Counties. They also name in the complaint they're filing Darling's campaign, Americans for Prosperity, Wisconsin Family Action, the American Federation for Children, and Wisconsin Right to Life.

DPW also said the Milwaukee County District Attorney's office announced an investigation yesterday into a coalition of "right-wing corporate funded special interest groups." Tate said the groups have been funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars into campaign communications in support of Darling. Tate also alleged Darling was accepting "unlimited, unregulated campaign cash" from those same groups while she was writing Gov. Scott Walker's budget.

DPW filed an open records request into these groups on July 13. The party claims that Darling refused to comply and only a threat of a lawsuit resulted in her releasing some of the records requested. DPW said her refusal to release the records "indicate her intent to cover up her illegal activity. To cover up in violation of open records laws her collusion with special interest groups."
