Video: Citizens being removed from Assembly antechamber in advance of vote

Post by dane101 on 3/11/2011 10:07am

Wednesday night citizens occupied the Assembly antechamber and held it overnight hoping to be allowed to speak when collective bargaining stripping legislation went up for a vote on Thursday. They said they felt the need to take the action due to the Republicans in the Senate passing the same legislation via roll call vote without giving the public the opportunity to express concerns. Republican Assembly Leader Jeff Fitzgerald ordered that the antechamber be cleared of citizens prior to the vote taking place. The State Troopers began removing the citizens who were taking part in the protest over labor issues. In the second video Capitol Police Chief Charles Tubbs pleads with the protesters not to resist arrest and they ask for him to "uphold our rights." At the seven minute mark in the second video Rep. Marc Pocan explains to Tubbs that Democratic Assemblymembers are being denied entrance and detained at the door of the Capitol. Below is footage of the antechamber being cleared captured by Dane101 photographer Phil Ejercito.
