Election 2008: Scenes from the street celebration
A spontaneous street celebration broke out in downtown Madison last night, as thousands paraded and danced in the streets of Madison following Barack Obama's electoral victory. It is entirely possible that somewhere in the throng of ecstatic revelers, a sailor kissed a nurse. (Also, check out Critical Badger's contrast of 60s Madison versus today).

Now I'm even more bummed I had to go home and go to bed. Thanks for getting pictures of this so I can at least see what happened.
Is there an estimate of how many people were out there?

Hell f**kin' yeah. This time I'm going to put it on my calendar (not that Nov 4th wasn't, but I was busy grocery shopping for some odd reason... B-)
Love the pix, especially that flag guy. He's my hero.
Crowd size?

I don't know if anyone ever really came out with a semi-official crowd count or anything, but my best guess would be around 8,000-10,000. 'Twas incredible, indeed.

I was there, it was amazing. Best State Street mob ever, as well as one incredible reason to be celebrating.
