Yesterday, Google launched “Street View” as part of Google Maps for Madison. An address search in Google Maps now provides a picture of the area and the specific location. Street View is designed to give a panoramic 360-degree view of a city at ground level. Pictures are taken by a camera mounted to the top of a car. “The imagery is typically between a couple months and a year old at the time of launch,” said Elaine Filadelfo of Google in an email. Madison was one of 13 new metropolitan areas announced yesterday. Others include Austin, Cleveland, and Little Rock. To try out Street View for yourself, go to maps.google.com. |
