Madison's Lee Rayburn to pinch hit for Air America's Rachel Maddow

In what can only be described as bittersweet, Madison's prematurely fired Air America talk show host Lee Rayburn has been asked to carry the reigns of Air America's nationally syndicated the Rachel Maddow show for one week. Rayburn will be sitting in for Air America's best-informed host December 26 - 29. Conveniently that will also be the last week Air America will be on the air in Madison as the Mic will switch from the Air America format to FOX Sports January 1.
Rayburn was let go from the Mic the same week the announcement of the format change was made. Today also marks the final day of Rayburn’s podcast. For the past three weeks Rayburn and cohort Jodie Shawback have been recording a podcast on Tuesday’s at the Escape Java Joint on Willy Street. The final broadcast can be heard here.
Finally, there will be one last chance to voice your opinion on the choice by Clear Channel to switch WXXM from progressive talk to volleyball coverage tonight at the High Noon Saloon. The “Save the Mic†group is hosting a rally at 7 p.m. featuring speakers such as former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin.
Maddow’s show runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. locally. Her show stands out from other Air America produced shows because of Maddow’s sharp wit and her attention to issues in the world beyond the White House.
