Quote:
Brian Solomon, a member of the Dudgeon Monroe Neighborhood Association (DMNA), announced his candidacy today for District 10 Alder.

“Madison is a great city, but we still face many challenges and opportunities,” said Solomon. “Many of our city's residents continue to face barriers to equality, education, and employment. Economic development has never been more important, but it brings with it significant pressure on our transportation infrastructure, green space, lakes, water quality, and neighborhoods. We must invest wisely in a future that protects our environment and guarantees equal opportunity for all of our residents.”

Solomon has the support of many neighborhood and community leaders, including outgoing District 10 Alder Ken Golden, State Representative Terese Berceau, County Supervisor Carousel Bayrd, and former DMNA Presidents Daryl Sherman and Jane Riley. Terese Berceau stated, “I've known Brian since he was a graduate student at the LaFollete Institute. He is passionate, energetic, and committed to making a difference.”

Solomon owns a home with his wife, Lynne, an attorney who works for a statewide non-profit, and their two young children. Solomon serves on the Madison Equal Opportunity Commission, is a member of the AIDS Network Board of Directors, and is the Director of Wisconsin Job Service (for the State of Wisconsin’s Department of Workforce Development). He is former President of the Dudgeon Monroe Neighborhood Association and one of the founders of AIDS Network Cycles Together (the Madison AIDS Ride).

Jane Riley, a longtime activist and former President of DMNA, said, “Brian has worked hard in our neighborhood. His values and commitment to making a difference will benefit all of District 10 and the City of Madison.”

Solomon added, “We have so many opportunities before us: to make improvements in our mass transit alternatives, continue revitalization of downtown Madison through infill development, make pedestrian and bike friendly investments, guarantee equal opportunity for all Madisonians, and attract high quality and family supporting jobs. I am honored to have this chance to improve our community, our environment, and the lives of our citizens.”
