Spring Election '07: Marsha Rummel announces for District 6
The run up to Spring Election 2007 continues as Marsha Rummel announces her plan to run for the seat being vacated by Judy Olson in District 6. Rummel may have made this announcement earlier than today, but Dane101 just stumbled across her campaign site (www.marsharummel.com), so it is the first we had heard of her tossing a hat in the ring. Rummel handles the finances for the Rainbow Bookstore and has also served as President of the Marquette Neighborhood Association. More details on her candidacy below and at her website. As a reminder, Dane101 will run any announcements of candidacy or resignation sent our way and all of our Spring Election '07 coverage is available by clicking "Spring Election '07" above.
I am excited to announce my candidacy for 6th District Alder in next spring's general election.
I've been involved in the Marquette Neighborhood Association since 1994 and have served as President since 2002. I've worked with a lot of people through the years, a lot of you!, not only in Marquette but in adjacent 6th district neighborhood associations and the East Isthmus Planning Council on interests of shared concern.
Many important challenges face our district: the safety of our drinking water and the health of our water eco-system, the future of MGE and Kipp, the loss of neighborhood police officers, bus service to the east-side, the balance between historic preservation and new construction, creating living wage jobs in our central city neighborhoods and keeping our neighborhoods diverse and affordable. We also have many wonderful new additions on the horizon, the Yahara River Parkway, the new home of the Atwood Community Center, and Central Park.
We've discussed the reconstruction and redevelopment of E Washington Avenue, traffic planning, historic districts and the future of the house, green building and urban design, the community benefits of TIF districts, and the link between affordable housing for families and student enrollment in east-side schools. We know the importance of working through neighborhoods to have a voice at the table, making sure people have the information they need to effectively participate as residents and citizens.
I have a passion for making the city and the district a place for all residents. The opportunity to work on these issues and continue the proud tradition of progressive values in the 6th district motivate me to run.
