Sen. Feingold first guest on "Real Time with Bill Maher"
The junior Senator from Wisconsin was the first guest on the debut episode of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher. Sen. Russ Feingold shows he has the chops for the late night circuit expressing a sense of humor while tackling topics including campaign finance reform, wiretaps and the Patriot Act. While the questions from Maher were mostly softballs, he does hold the feet of the potential Democratic choice for a '08 Presidential bid to the fire with his closing question concerning the parties weak knees on the environment. Maher says, "that is not exactly the answer I was looking for. I was hoping you would say 'Yes, Bill, the environment should be number one on my agenda and we're going to be the party that saves your ass from global warming.'"
Feingold replied:
"We will make it a big issue this year, but not until we get this Iraq situation and the wiretapping and all these situations...we have to actually show the administration that we will stand up to them. We will stand up to them on their attack on clean water, we will stand up to them on their attack on the wilderness areas, we will challenge the White House and the President when he says we're the country with an oil addiction when in fact he has been part of the oil addiciton. But the first thing is to challenge this wrong doing and undercut their aility to intimidate the Democrats. That's the first way to get this whole job done."
The website Crooks and Liars has a video of the full interview in both Quicktime and Windows Media.
