Tenant Resource Center – Your Home for Housing Help

Tonight, the Tenant Resource Center celebrates 25 years of service to area renters with an evening of hors d’oeuvres, music by Oncken Jazz Expression and good conversation at the Brass Ring (701 E. Washington Ave). Hope to see you there!

We have accomplished much in the last few years and continue to start new and exciting programs. In the past 10 years we have:

· Continued our Statewide Seminars (1995)
· Merged with the Student Tenant Union (1995)
· Started our Housing Mediation Service (1996)
· Opened the Housing Help Desk (1998)
· Started a Housing Crisis Fund to assist people obtaining and maintaining their housing (1999)
· Became partners in the Social Justice Center (2000)
· Started a case management program (2002)
· Opened our 800# to better serve clients throughout the state (2004), and
· Completely overhauled our Apartment Management in Wisconsin Book (2005)

We are proud to provide tenants and landlords with information and referrals, education about rental rights and responsibilities, access to conflict resolution and access to eviction prevention funds and resources. The Tenant Resource Center helps thousands of people every year with the following services:

· More than 6,000 people speak with our volunteer housing counselors at our Williamson Street office to find out about their rights and possible courses of action in their rental situations.

· 1,000 service professionals, students, and community members attend TRC workshops and presentations about rental rights and responsibilities.

· Over 1,000 tenants and landlords use the Housing Mediation Service for about 450 mediations at small claims court and in the community.

· 9,200 people stop by or call the Housing Help Desk for referrals to community resources, emergency shelter, eviction prevention funding, and security deposit assistance.

With membership support last year, it was possible for those thousands of people to access Tenant Resource Center services at no or minimal cost.
