Kristian takes leave

Current | Dane101

I am writing to announce my stepping down as Dane101 publisher, effective at the end of next week. The reason for this is that I will be employed by Isthmus as of August 1, working to build their website through reporting and the development of new features. It is a great opportunity.

In his exceptional piece last night about newspapers and the emergence of continuous online publishing, Jesse alluded to this development, speculating about the rapid shift in online publishing that Madison will see over the next month.

This was also reported today in ‘Making the Paper’, a regular introductory column in Isthmus written by the weekly’s publisher, Vince O’Hern.

He wrote;

Quote:
Not that life is a soap opera around here, but Isthmus has been going through a period where the sand seems to be running through that hourglass awfully fast. Time to bring the readership up to date with the mutating masthead.

O’Hern went on to describe a number of changes at the weekly in its editorial, advertising, and finally, incipient web departments;

Quote:
Switching departments, Aug. 1 is also the start date for Kristian Knutsen, formerly a principal in the short-lived weekly The Wisconsinite and, as I write, one of the folks who produce Dane101.com. He will be working for thedailypage.com, adding more reportage and innovation to our Web site. Along with Ms. Manowske, he represents reinforcement for the undermanned Web staff and expansion of its capabilities. We’re excited.

So am I. One item to note is that The Wisconsinite was a bi-weekly, and it was published from February through July of 2004.

I will be posting a number of items through the end of next week, at which point I will be working and writing on the thedailypage.com. However, I plan on continuing reading (and commenting on) this website. Thank you very much to Jesse, Shane, every Contributing Writer, and all of our readers. I wish Dane101 tremendous success as it moves forward.
