Sunday marked the annual celebration of gay pride in the city, with the Madison Capitol Pride parade circling the Capitol building. Under beautiful sunny skies, a diverse crowd of people from community groups, local dance clubs, and religious organizations - as well as several politicians - joined the fun.
Newly official Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress Mark Pocan marched, as did Dane County DA Ishmael Ozanne and Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney. As with every year, there was a sizable contingent of Tammy Baldwin supporters, made larger and louder by her current run for U.S. Senate.
About a dozen local congregations also had representatives in the parade to show their support for LGBT rights and their LGBT members, and an atheists/agnostics group showed support for the non-believers, too.
About a half-dozen protesters stood quietly on the Capitol lawn holding signs expressing their disapproval, but they were mostly obscured by several, peaceful counter-protesters dressed in bright rainbow colors and holding signs expressing a more inclusive view.
